02 Aug 04 - 09:05 PM (#1239304) Subject: Review: Christy Moore Box Set From: Shanghaiceltic Could not find a reference in the files so hopefully I am not repeating anything here. I bought the Christy Moore Box set whilst I was over in the UK and I can only say it is money well spent. 101 tracks some of which he has never released on record before. They cover his music from 1964-2004 and it is organised onto six discs each named by colour, red, green, pink etc. However the oranisation of the tracks onto each disc does not seem to follow a particular order of time, subject or event. Some of the tracks are of poorer audio quality but as he says in the extenisive notes provided he was happy that someone illicitly recorded the particular song and captured the spirit of the night rather than the quality. Whatever it is a wonderfull collection of songs and anecdotes and goes well with his autobiography 'One Voice'. I also picked up the Planxty re-release "After the Break' and the 'Planxty Live 2004' both of which have some stunning playing. I moved this message here from another thread on the same topic. |

03 Aug 04 - 10:57 AM (#1239452) Subject: RE: Review: Christy Moore Box Set From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy CD 6 has all four members of Planxty singing 'Down in the Valley', recorded for and left off the first Planxty album, years before 'O Brother'! yes, Liam O'Flynn can sing! this box set is well worth having, available from Christy's web site at a reasonable price and FREE shipping and handling. He gets the proceeds directly too, so better than Amazon. Planxty Live 2004 also available this way, FREE shipping |

25 Nov 04 - 04:25 AM (#1338561) Subject: RE: Review: Christy Moore Box Set From: Big Al Whittle Yes some mystifying ommissions. You generally think of boxed sets being like the Simon an Garfunkel thing where they put everything in. Perhaps Christy takes it as read, that we've all got Ride On, Curragh of Kildare etc - that is if we're likely to buy this collection. |

13 Jan 05 - 11:13 PM (#1378745) Subject: RE: Review: Christy Moore Box Set From: GUEST,Ken Murphy An outstanding collection, a lot of what is on the collection is one off stuff, warts and all, a real insight into a fabulous entertainer. If anyone wants to hear other tracks buy the CD's because that is not really what this collection is all about and he does explain in the notes why he chose the tracks that he did, I for one am more than happy, the best collection I have ever bought. I hope there are more treasures waiting to be put on CD, hail Christy. Ken |
