Dropped and bust me fiddle. Yippee. What kind of glue should I use to stick it back together?

i think most instrument repair people use hide glue....but it is a tricky deal perhaps not to be tried at home...there is a lot of tension on an instrument when all the strings are on....might want to get a pro to help here....need clamps, etc. to do it right.

As I suspected. Thanks, open mike.

The glue is weak to allow the fiddle to be disassembled for repair. The hide glue is thin and can be dissolved with heat and moisture. Araldite, superglue etc are to be avoided like the plague.

You have to use hide glue, because if you need to get it apart again, warming it up'll do it without wrecking the fiddle.

If it is worth repairing take it to an expert, there are allsorts of nuances with a fiddle which can be mucked up by a non expert!

Being mudcat - which bit of the world are you in?

Most fiddle repairers will sell you high quality glue (Cologne)
But if it's a really good fiddle get them to do the work for you .

If you do the work it without the knowledge needed and tools etc. you'll just end up paying a lot more for a repairer to sort out your mess( sorry i mean repair)

Doyen is on Fraser St. (between King Edward and 26th)in Vancouver. There is a new Luthiery on the next block as well. It might be worth the ferry fare.

If you do it yourself, do not use hide glue from a bottle. You must only use the granulated glue that you soak in water, then heat in a double boiler. Al
