Barnsley this weekend (10-Apr-2004)

Just to let you know Barnsley Singaround weekend is on this Easter weekend Fri-Sun. Events at Shaw Inn. Indoor camping at YMCA. Benny Graham is guest on Sunday. I shall be there certainly Saturady and Sunday afternoon perhaps Friday. All events organised by Barnsley Folk Club and Little Legs Padgett. As Lady Aefleda is in Peru the famous Sunday cooked breakfast may have to be organised by someone else !!

Thanks for this thread Jimmy, it has all the makings of a right good do, I've got the club regulars on board and one or two new faces
Jct 37 M1 Shaw lane coming into Barnsley to the end Shaw St/Racecommon Rd Gd FR to Sun
Musicians will abound and do their thing down stairs, along with those opting out of the incredible singaround in the club room
It should have its fair share of intrigue as usual and I'm expecting all sorts of notables and illuminaries from all over the country dropping in:
I hope one or two stay for Benny, small charge or £3, as a few will come specifically to see him
Roy Blackman also spotted, he's written a folk opera! can't fit it in at the FF (once seen never forgotten - memeory man from Hughie Green days, if you remember him, likley to come)
Sunday am breakfast (Easter always a problem) but Shaw putting on food, just need to let them know req)
Maybe, just maybe one or two ladies and competent gents may be persuaded to cook Sunday braekfast- now there is a challenge!

I'm sorry that Maggie and I will miss out this year. Maggie is still in Thailand, and I fell off my pushbike a week or so ago and bashed my arm. Although it's getting better, it's not really up to pushing and pulling bellows or fingering bouzouki chords yet. We'll see you all soon somewhere soon.

The elephants still haven't let her go then? Sorry to hear about the arm - see you both soon I hope.

Sounds like a good one.

Padgett, can you (or anyone else) confirm if we just turn up on the Friday for indoor camping, or would we need to contact anyone in advance?

Also is it near a train station?

Thanks

Simon

Les from Hull I have to point out that if you have only damaged one arm it should not affect your ability to.........Thumb a lift...Drink...Stick a finger in your ear and sing!.........Someone will always be around to open a door for you when you have one hand full with a glass.............So bare this in mind and as it gets to the weekend and you are feeling a bit better get yourself over to Barnsley. If you don't I'm sure you will be missed by lot's of people. Who will all want to see and hear you sooner rather than later! So sling (sling get it) your hook (hook think Peter Pan) over to Barnsley and enlighten us to the sound of one hand clapping.
Cheers George

Harlow poet, you've contacted the appropriate bloke re indoor camping
Barnsley train and Bus station (together) 3 min walk as they are both in the town centre, ask for McDonalds in the town (stay on the flat, then up by the post office and you'll see the YM on the corner, but the camping is along Blucher St to the back of the YM- Community Hall, will be open Fri 5.30pm or give me a ring on 01226 284927
On Leeds Sheff line or if you go to Wakefield, may need to change from Westgate to Kirkgate, could get London bus
Watch Bank Hol connections!!

Went to Barnsley this evening & had a great time -- some brilliant singers there! Plus, I got to meet Mr & Mrs Duck (what more could a Catter ask?) Looking forward to tomorrow...

Great time and some wonderful songs and monologues. Wish we could have made Sunday too but children were demanding chocolate with menaces at 7 am so thought we'd stay home.

Goodly time had by all. Good singing and fun. Managed to assume Lady Aefleda's mantle by cooking breakfast for 13 1/2 on Sun day at YM. Benny and Chuck were great on Sunday..

just surfaced!
thanks to all who came and enjoyed, pity about bank holiday transport works and disruptions

Should be at Holmfirth, last years glitches being ironed out!! I'm told, also Cleckheaton and Saddleworth ~ doing some trad song workshops Yorkshire slant; may pop in at Wath over early May Day holiday, but Wakefield Jolly Sailor first Sun from 2pm good music + song session
Too many festivals at Spring bank Holiday, totally spoilt for choice!!
