12 Apr 04 - 08:32 PM (#1160305) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: erinmaidin I host a trad.session in Dun Laoghaire every Tues. night at the Cozie Pub...and on Sunday nights in Blackrock at Conway's...if you're interested..Also, Monday nights is a good session in the Wishing Well also located near Blackrock. As for the city...I don't get in much..but I hear Mother Redcap's is a place for music..also Whelan's....and if you see a free paper in any of the newstands called "The Event Guide" pick it up! It has many listings in it for things to do around town..including sessions and music. |

17 Apr 04 - 12:20 AM (#1163698) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: musicmick It is many years since I was in Dublin but I remember that O'Doneghue's on Merion Row was the real center of music. Has all that changed? Also, Slattery's on Capel Street housed the best folk clubs. For late night pure trad, you couldn't beat the Piper's Club if you were lucky enough to get in. Ah, the rare old times. |

23 Apr 04 - 06:22 AM (#1168825) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: concertina ceol Sunday afternoon/night at the Cobblestone, Smithfield Market - is a "real" session. The stuff in Temple Bar is largely tourist fare only. A lot of fun but not really authentic. Ha'penny is ok but does more concerts than real sessions. I was in Dublin at the end of February - can't wait to go back. |
23 Apr 04 - 11:53 AM (#1169042) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: Fergie Slattery's of Capel St was 'gentrified/yuppified' a few years ago, a victim of the Celtic tiger, it is ruined, no trad there now just overpriced and sour pints. The ham sandwiches made there behind the counter were legendry, now the are a travesty, would'nt feed a bird. Dublin in the rare ould times, Slattery's was special but alas it is now just a memory. Oh! if those walls could talk they could tell many a tale. Hughes is still good, and the Góilín Club on friday night is always special, the Cobblestone has many a good session. Fergus |

07 May 04 - 06:46 PM (#1180686) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: vectis O'Shea's Merchant on the banks of the Liffey. Next bridge up from the halfpenny bridge (can't remember it's name) seconded. Pity you're there over the weekend, the place is full of tourists. Tuesday to Thursday is best full of local step dancers and bands. There's one place about half way up O'Connel Street. Back to the river, past the Post Office and on about 50 yards, can't remember what it's called but came highly recommended. |
07 May 04 - 07:37 PM (#1180726) Subject: RE: Dublin music pubs mid May From: Tattie Bogle we were in O'Shea's on the Saturday night after the Ireland v Scotland rugby international in March, thanks to a tip-off from an Irish rugby supporter as we thought the pubs in Temple bar would all be full of rugby supporters. We had a great, if crowded, time with resident band who played good mix of instrumentals and songs. ( By the way it's just along the atreet from the O'Shea's bar on the corner which seemed to be more into disco music! |
