Breezy's daughter is a weightlifter. She's just competed in The European Championships testerday and got a very worthy 4th place. They're hoping she'll get called up for the Olympics.

I must apologise for my erstwhile but illiterate fellow-catter. The translate button on these pages doesn't have a "Breezy to Comprehensible" option. Yet. Technically too challenging, allegedly.

Interested to here what she lifted.
I am a Powerlifter and compete within the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association and as such will be entering the British Championships at Grangemouth on May 9th. for the third time.

I was World Masters Champion for my weight in 2001 and 2002, missed 2003 with a back injury. And for a short while held the World Record for the squat lift in the same category. If things go well I might break the current record again at the Brits in May.
Powerlifting is a minority sport but I find it helps keep me fit for carrying the guitars for my wife and her singing partner. It is hoped that it will become an Olympic Sport. But I will be old and past it before that happens.

Best of luck Breezy to your daughter.

I would really love to see guitar carrying as an olympic sport too!
I have been in training for lo, these many years!!

she produced a snatch of 92k dissappointing 2failures at 95

stop s niggering

and clean and jerked, stop it

112 , 117 then 120k a p b

she weighs 57k in her lycra

El Greko weighs 120k approx

Good luck with the guitar lifting, check the handles on the cases first.

Always bend the knees and keep your back srraight, never bend forward to lift.

Its all in the legs, her arms are like twigs although she can do 19 chins-ups.

She also plays the accordion but not often and has played on May day in Padstow where she went to Primary school

Taught accordion by Chris Brinn, but I've just nicked it back.

So there is a folk connection here.

Hey Open Mike you missed my "interested to here" But still I like your style.
Did I say how many guitars I had to lift?

Good lifting for 57k.

I weigh in for the 75k. And notlooking for excuses but knackered back, torn crutiate (posterier and anterier) and dislocated a/c joint (undiagnosed for 6weeks) all make lifting a bit painful now.
Still
Squat 150 (World Record is 160 for my category)
Bench a feeble 87.5
Deadlift 177.5.

Not bad for a 50 year old though.

Hey Rob,

good for you, well done, stay with it, you've given me an idea

Maybe I'll take it up, I think its in the family genes.
where do I go?
Cruciate ligaments were stretched a bit a long while ago too
what are the age categories?
I dont think I'ld be in yours.
Where do you put the weight when you squat, on the shoulders as a back squat?
All I want is a coach, I wonder if she'll take me on board?

Maybe I'll try a few push ups tonight,

then again

Whens your next comp? and where?

Power to Michaela, Breezy. With El Inglese's permission - now there's a girl that could sweep ME off my feet! She could certainly clean this jerk.

You shouldn't have mentioned the lycra, Breezy - I'm off for a cold shower...

Hi Breezy The weight goes on the back for the squat and keep the head UP looking to the ceiling. It helps keep the back in the correct position .

The British Championships are on Sat 8th and Sunday 9th May in Gangemouth. I will be competing on the Sunday.

Age categories lots of them u23, 23-39, 40- 44, and the every 5 years but currently under review.

so I am in the 75g Masters 45-49 unequiped .next year I move up an age group.

I was debating recording but I haven't seen all the WRC recording yet - this work thing is getting in the way of blobbing in front of the telly. Keep us posted about Athens. (I think we will know the Olympics are on) - dates of the weightlifting / womens / class etc.

There is a qualifying weight for the Brits and you have to be a member for 3 months before you can enter.

Yes I do mean GRangemouth at the stadium.

Anyone can enter a Divisional as a Novice lifter. For lots of info on the BDFPA go to their web site www.bdfpa.plus.com/

There are seversal good female lifters out there why not get you daughter to have a go.

Thanks for support I am off for another session (in the gym)tonight Three more big one then taper for three more and rest before the comp.
I am looking at three PBs and a nice big total. Dont think I will win it this year but who knows.

I tried the World Puff-A-Box Championships at GlenFarg the other week and was not even in the top ten. last year I was forth. The standard was pretty even though.

Well Done! Some meaty lifting there.

I came second in the M2 75kg class . Should have lifted more but a week rock climbing and an 11 hour walk in Knoydart took a bit more out of me than expected.

Still equalled my PB for Squat. Messed up on bench as usual. Dealift was poor. I wanted a total of 400kg plus but just failed.

I will have to wait for next year when I go into a different age group.

May all your weights be light and all your lights be white!

Rob good luck in Grangemouth. Used to live and work in Grangemouth many years ago (many fond memeories), and used to be friends with the sports stadium manager there at that time.

Grangemouth will at least remind you of the Olympics with all the flames brightening up the sky from the Petro Chemical Companies.

Should have known to look here for the info first. Just spent ages looking up official BBC and Olympics sites to eventually find http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics_2004/weightlifting/results/3532080.stm which only told me less than you've already said above.

Yes: "well done"s and "you must be proud"s seconded. Breezy's got a low profile I assume cos he's off-line and down in the South-West for the summer white-water rafting season. (Sorry for that very poor taste joke.)

She gets my vote for top personality in weightlifting. Her interview was a classic; she has endeared herself to the viewers, and will be going some way towards achieving her aim to demistify the sport and create interest in it.

My favourite shot (I already requested a copy from Breezy) is just as she's lifting the 120kg in the clean-and-jerk, when she smiles and sticks her tongue out.

Also, when she failed to lift the 122.5kg, you could lip-read her during the attempt; she was saying: "I don't think so" with a smile. What a spark!

Finally, I said that before and will say it again: Given her lifting score, this is definitely a woman that can sweep me off my feet!

Attagirl, Mickie!

Michaela the qualifing comps for the British Drug Free Powerliting Assoc are starting to take place. So if you are looking for some friendly comps why not join us. Search on BDFPA or the Irish site IDFPA for info on whats on where.
I will be entering the Northern Divisional Champs on Sunday Dec 12th which are in High Bentham, and the Scottish Champs which are in Feb.
Then in for the Brits probably in early May.
I am now in the M3 age group and hope to win with some new British Records.

You can do equiped or unequipped Or both! The Powerlifting is three lifts totalled, Squat, Bench, and Deadlift. The Single Lift Comps are where you specialise in one or more.
