At the New England Folk Festival this past weekend, I heard someone do a version of A Plea for Order with the last verse changed from Reagan to Bush. It wasn't her change, but she found it somewhere and loved it; does anyone know where I can find the changed verse?

You won't find a Bush version of the song there, but it's worth looking at the Website of Heather Wood who wrote this song.

Of course, substituting "Dubya" for "Gingrich" in that revised version, and "Tony" for "Major" increases timeliness considerably. Just don't let Teribus hear you sing it.

I got a copy of this song recently from Heather Wood so I am posting her revised words here and sending Joe a midi of the tune.

A PLEA FOR ORDER
(Heather Wood -- 1986)

Please don't dismember your father,
And leave bits all over the shed,
He was a tidy man all of his life,
And should remain so when he's dead.
Gather him up in a garbage bag,
Remember the collection's at two,
Please leave the potting shed just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a patricide,
It doesn't mean that you can be untidy,
Make the world a nice place to live,
For others are following you.

Don't make a bonfire of Mother if
You live in a smoke-free zone.
You'll bring disgrace on the family
And lower the neighborhood's tone.
Just feed her into the furnace;
That way you'll save energy, too.
Please leave the garden just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a matricide. . .

Please do not poison your brother;
That might be hard to explain,
Just get him drunk on rye whiskey
And then shove him under a train.
One thing that you should remember is
To have him insured e'er you do.
Please leave Amtrak just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a fratricide. . .

Don't have a cookout with Baby,
He's so small, he'll only serve six,
The steaks that you get will be paltry;
He's hardly got ribs or drumsticks.
You'll find that he'll go much further
Served up in a hearty ragout.
Please leave the dining room just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're an infanticide. . .

Please don't go slashing your jugular
And dripping all over the floor.
Don't cut your wrists at the bathroom sink
And cover the faucets with gore.
Just take a large dose of sleeping pills,
Then faint with your head down the loo.
Please leave the bathroom just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a suicide. . .

Don't stuff the Queen in a blender
And turn the control to ``puree,''
Then neglect to clean out the container;
Remember that's not the right way,
Before you flush her down the toilet,
Retrieve the Crown Jewels from the goo.
Please leave the Throne Room just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a regicide. . .

If you assassinate Gingrch, please
Do it in a manner that's neat,
Just tie him to a cruise missile
And aim it at Ten Downing Street.
This way, you'll also get Major;
The world will be grateful to you.
Please leave the White House just as you found it,
For others are following you.

Just because you're a pesticide. . .
(11-19-88)
When you eliminate George Bush
By touching him to the third rail
Be sure, ere you give him that slight push
That he's holding hands with Dan Quayle
You may think new elections expensive
But in the long run that's not true
Please leave the platform just as you found it,
For others are following you

Just because you're a herbicide...

Well, there ya go, only 5 and a half years later. Yessiree Bob we here at Mudcat get right on it, don't we though?

Happens someone at Camp New Harmony (the SFFMC campout over NYs) leads a "Cide" workshop where we sing songs about various sorts of murders and run a body count. It was mentioned that we needed this song, so I got in touch with Heather Wood, who obliged with her now somewhat dated words, and a lead sheet. If anyone wants the lead sheet in that form, PM me and I'll forward it to ya.
Blessings,
Barbara

I'm happy to report that Deborah Sandler has picked up this song and sang it at Arlene Immerman's "Songs of 'Cide" workshop at this year's San Francisco Free Folk Festival. She had a last verse about drowning the Tea Party in Boston Harbor. Way to go, Heather -- what a fine song!

Another verse from Diplocase, to fit El Trumpo:

Don’t put an end to the Tweeter
And leave all his cronies in place
Job isn’t done without pa-pe-rwork
Take note of each well-made-up face
When we go vote in November
Eliminate ev-er-y fool
Please leave the White House just as you found it,
For others are following you!
Just because you’re a pesticide
That doesn’t mean that you can be untidy
Make the world a nice place to live,
        For others are following you.
