Unfortunately, I'm not going to be a whole lot of help. I do know that none of the regular song circles are on those two days; I don't know a whole lot about the pub scene, although there ought to be a fair bit of good music. But what do you consider your "good music"--Irish? Old Timey? Rockabilly? Bluegrass? Not only don't I know anything to help you--I'm not even going to be here then to celebrate with you. I'll be in New Jersey at my 40th high school reunion (and here I could put "heh, heh" or maybe "Oh my gawd" but I don't think I'll put anything). David |

From: Amergin Kells usually has some good music....but it is kind of a frat pub...the alberta street pub has great music...they do have a jam session every once in a while...but I'm not sure when....also you may want to check out Biddy Mcgraw's as well. Other than that I'm not sure...welcome to portland! |

I can't remember the name of the bar I went to two years ago, but when I left my ears were almost bleeding! Talk about LOUD! (am I getting old? ;o) |

28 Apr 04 - 11:00 PM (#1173717) Subject: RE: What's hot in Portland, OR. July 23&24? From: GUEST Yes, the zoo is great.........it's called zoo tunes.....the Friday Oregonian has a section called the A&E (Arts and Entertainment) that list most of the best things going on in town. I regularly attend the Irish session at Biddy McGraws on Sunday evenings from 7:30 - whenever...........it's not loud. Alberta Street has an Irish Session on Friday nights that's for the 'experienced' to pro Irish musician if that fits your bill. It's great just to sit and listen....Alberta Street is smoke free and Biddy's does allow smoking. As for Breweries.......McMennamins is a must.....there are brew pubs, theater pubs and hotels owned by the McMennamin brothers that are all pretty good. You will have just missed the Portland Highland Games which is on the 17th of July but there's plenty more stuff going on. Enjoy your visit........the Willamette valley is beautiful! |
