It goes ... Every little girl would like to be the fairy on the christmas tree and somewhere it goes on ... Every little girl, you understand, is really queen of fairyland It also mentions "golliwogs", which is a little un PC and probably why its popularity waned It was sung by Gracie Fields and she has recorded it, but does anyone know the lyrics?? I seem to remember a concert where a troupe of us little girls sang and danced to this song, we were dressed in white tutus and waved wands. I think it's from around 1936. The song was written by Harry Parr-Davies and Roma Hunter. Gracie Fields also recorded it. I got the following words from a sound sample at Barnes & Noble Every little girl would like to be The fairy on the Christmas tree, Up above the party, dressed in white, Shining in the candlelight. Family tradition is to use a cheap, brightly painted wooden cut out (brought back from a 1960's trip to the USSR) of a worker in heroic pose, holding aloft a hammer and sickle. Trouble is, he doesn't have the tinselly glitter of a fairy, so we usually brighten him up with one of the little red fairy lights between his legs. Phil |

He was Gracie Fields' pianist and wrote a number of her 'big hits', including 'Wish me Luck as You Wave Me Goddbye'' He also wrote 'Pedro The fisherman' and 'There'll Always Be An England'. My Grandfather was a cousin of his (his name was Frank Horace Parr and was born in Briton Ferry in circa 1908 (and died in 1975). He also wrote for Jack Buchanan and Anna Neagle among others. Sadly Harry Parr Davies developed a serious drink problem which was the cause of his early demise, much to the shame of my family at the time apparently. During his career he rubbed shoulders with the Hoolywood set, there being numerous photos of him with the stars of the day. |

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out…heaven knows where to. More Stress! Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys. Totally frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he found the elves had hid the liquor and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from. Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed on his way to the door. He opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said: "Where would you like me to put this tree Santa?" And this my friend is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree. |

They are by George Melachrino and His Orchestra, Harry Hall & The BBC Dance Orchestra, Nigel Ogden, and Gracie Fields.
