Death?

And if so, why and how would you live differently?

Absolutely not, it would spoil the surprise.

I'd probably be better not.   I'd spend too much time trying to organize it.

I think not. It would interfere with the game. Anyway, my higher soul does know, so it's taken care of.

My lower soul is already deceased and my middle one is ailing. I suspect I'd best not know, because the lower one might come back to life just to annoy the upper and middle souls and then where would I be?

As for doing things differently, well, no, probably not. Doing it differently can also mean screwing it up worse than I have already.

If you live each moment as fully as you can, then it really doesn't matter when you die.

because I'd make damned sure I never went near the place *grin*

entire sci-fi stories have been written about 'knowing', and trying to avoid the circumstance....

naww...I don't wanna know in advance excatly....but I 'might' like to know IF I only have a "short time", so I could tie up some loose ends. I will always have loose ends, even with a will. "Honey, make sure Uncle Hiram doesn't get any of my records....and I have $40 hidden in my copy of RUS (I knew you'd never look there)."

Seems to me one should live each moment in the certainty that they will die, and they don't know when that time will come. It also seems that the "mystery" surrounding the when of death is a great motivator to make ones life have meaning. Or it can be a motivator of other things as well. Isn't the maturation process all about the knowing that ones life is passing? I guess I am taking the long way around to saying that I find the passing of one's life to be an incredibly interesting experience, and I find the certainty that the end is closer than the beginning to be an incredible stimulus to seek to understand as much as I can. Add to that the uncertainty of "when?", and it almost lends a zest to the quest. Do I want to know when? Nope. Do I care? This is less and less important as time goes on.

All the best,

Mick

W. S. Merwin wrote this poem many years ago called

For the Anniversary of My Death

Every year without knowing it I have passed the day
When the last fires will wave to me
ANd the silence will set out
Tireless traveller
Like the beam of a lightless star

Then I will no longer
Find myself in life as in a strange garment
Surprised at the earth
ANd the love of one woman
And the shamelessness of men
As today writing after three days of rain
Hearing the wren sing and the falling cease
And bowing not knowing to what

A friend of mine died on a mountain when he fell at least 400 feet. He was 29 years old. From his front window he must have seen that mountain a thousand times- do you suppose most of us have seen the place where we will die?

Good one, Jerry!

I think I'd like to know. In fact, I'd like to pick it.

And if not, I'd certainly like my last words to be "Wow! That was the BEST..."

Personally, I'm not planning to go. I'm aware that no one has lived forever but someone's got to be first.

(I forget who said that- but obviously s/he is a contemporary.)

Doctor told my uncle that he was going to die at 8:00 AM the next sunday morning. He and friends went out Saturday night. Got drunk and did lots they always wanted to do. At 2:00 AM one guy passed out. At 2:30 one guy was done in so he went home. Same thing at 3:00 and 4:00 AM. The guy who was going to pass away got really angry and raised the roof about everyone leaving him alone. The remaining few said, "It's easy for you to talk; you don't have to get up in the morning."

I told that one for years---and a few times here at Mudcat as well. That and lots of never before issued in-concert songs will be on it too.
