Highway Songs

I'm going to be taking a long car trip soon and I'm looking
for some suggestions for some feel good highway songs.
So far I've come up with:
- Lindsey Buckingham - Holiday Road
- G Love & Special Sauce - Fresh Lila
- Chuck Berry - No Particular Place to Go

Any Ideas?

How about "Stonecracker John" or "The Vagabond" ??
There is always Gracie Fields' "Sng As We Go" and Sir Harry Lauder's "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road" - I'll try and think of a few more!

Paul McCartneys.."Long and Winding Road" comes to mind.
BUT of course they do not have to be about roads....I personally love to listen to anything by "Enya" whilst on long trips and of course..testing out to find a decent radio station.

these are more travel-related songs with some qualifying as highway songs. and some may be too sad to "feel good," but I'll let you judge. they all work for me:

~ I Know You Rider - Trad
~ Southern Stream Line - John Fogerty
~ Key To The Highway - Broonzy
~ Willin'- Little Feat
~ The Road - Danny O'Keefe
~ Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe - Johnny Mercer; 1945
~ Your Bright Baby Blues – Jackson Browne;

Sitting down by the highway
Down by that highway side
Everybody's going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess they've got a lot to do
Before they can rest assured
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me baby
She can let me slide

~ Southbound Train – Graham Nash
~ Kansas City Blues – Jim Jackson; 1928; Dave Van ROnk did a great cover back in +/- 1961 with the Red Onion Jazz Band
~ Northwest Passage – Stan Rogers
~ Four Strong Winds – written by Ian Tyson; performed by Neil Young, HArry Belafonte
~ Roving Gambler
~ Racing in the Streets – Bruce Springstein
~ Railroad Bill – think it's trad
~ Take Me Home, Country Roads – John Denver
~ People Get Ready – Mayfield; 1964

Have a great trip!

Chris Rea - The Road To Hell
John from Hull - The Road To Hull
Talking Heads - The Road To Nowhere
M25 - the worlds biggest roundabout
The road to Mandalay
Road to Morocco - well Bing and Bob always sang some good songs...
actually I seem to recall at least one past thread about road songs. Can't recall the title though. Might be worth a forum search.
Quack!

I'VE BEEN A LONG TIME LEAVIN'
(But I'll Be A Long Time Gone) lyrics

I've been a fool, I've been a foo-ooo-ooool
Forgivin' you each time you done me wrong
I've been a long time leavin' ya, but I'll be a long time gone

Loved you so much, loved you so mu-u-huuuch
I stayed around when I should've moved along
I've been a long time leavin' ya, but I'll be a long time gone

I say hi there highline, hello highway
Here come a big old semi my way
I stick up my thumb, hear the truck come
But the truck goes by 'n' he looks like he's flyin'
And he whoops the big legs on my Levi's
They go woop woop woop woop woop

I've been a fool, I've been a foo-oo-ooool
Forgivin' you each time you done me wrong
I've been a long time leavin' ya, but I'll be a long time gone

I say hi there highline, hello highway
Here come a big old semi my way
I stick up my thumb, hear the truck come
But the truck goes by and he looks like he's flyin'
And he's whoopin' the big legs on my Levi's
Woop woop woop woop woop woop woop woop

I've been a fool, I've been a foo-oo-ooool
Forgivin' you each time that you've done me wrong
I've been a long time leavin' ya, but I'll be a long time gone

gone gone gone

best song in thje world!

Never Tire of the Road

Andy Irvine

I was just a small town country boy
When I left that country town
Route 66 to the Westward
And hopped an old freight down
California here I come
By the side door Pullman and the sunburnt thumb
And they called us Okies, lowdown bums
And the police on us frowned

Chorus:
Never tire of the road
Never tire of the rolling wheel
Never tire of the ways of the world
Way out yonder is a-calling me
And the dark road leads me onwards
And the highway, that's my code
And the lonesome voice that I heard said
Never tire of the road

California to the New York Island
Me and my guitar
And we played in many a hobo jungle
Many a skid row bar
Standing out in the wind and the rain
That lonesome whistle is a sweet refrain
When you are waiting for some old freight train
That carries an empty car.

Don't let them ever fool you
Or take you by surprise
That dirty smell of a politician
And the man with the greed in his eyes
One big union, that's our plan
And the IWW"s your only man
The flames of discontent we'll fan
For the cause that never dies

51 Highway Blues, is a classic highway blues song I sing every chance I get. It has been recorded by many, including myself.

Freeway Madness and Soft Shoulders And Dangerous Curves, are both Robert "One-Man" Johnson songs that I love singing.

um what about that Lindisfarne one, it's on the Fog On The Tyne Album, I only remember a couple of lines

You and me on the side of the road
In the morning feeling bright
.......?   and the lifts are few
Still thinking we'll be home tonight
