12 May 04 - 03:45 AM (#1183524) Subject: RE: World Environment Day -song suggestions From: Liz the Squeak I remember one called 'Wally the Whale' - a real gut wrencher (in more ways than one), about a whale being harpooned as it was talking to a little boy and asking why it was being hunted to extinction. Haven't been able to trace the words or artist though..... If you want more whales, try 'The last of the great whales' by Andy Barnes or 'Is the big feller gone?' and 'The good ship "Rainbow Warrior"' both by Rod Shearman and available in his song book, publicised here and available from Dave and Anni Fentiman. Martyn Windham-Read (I think) recorded a lovely song that was basically a list of British wildflowers, many of which are now endangered, again, I can't remember the title... I am a bear of very little brain today. Good luck with it! LTS |

12 May 04 - 08:51 PM (#1184313) Subject: RE: World Environment Day -song suggestions From: Margret RoadKnight Thanks all - some good memory joggers here (at my age & stage I'm hoping to re-learn, rather than start from scratch) Whales seem to form a sub-section here..... my favourite remains "The Whale" by Malvina Reynolds, whose prodigious output also provides "God Bless the Grass" & others. And there's Paul Seibel's "Prayer Song", Fred Hellerman & Fran Minkoff's "Healing River", Pete Seeger's "Well May the World Go"...... |
