Roll away the stone

(Ian Hunter)

Baby if you just say you still care
Follow you most anywhere
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone.

And, in the darkest night,
I'll keep you safe and all right
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone

Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it die

No matter if fools say we can't win
I know I'll fall in love again
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone
So sing - we still got a chance
Baby in love and sweet romance
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone

Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it lie

There's a rockabilly party on Saturday night
Are you gonna be there
(Well I got my invite)
Gonna bring your records
(Ohh, will do)
Made it!

Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it die
Come on roll
Come on roll, yeah
Come on roll
I want you to roll
Come on..... yeah
Come on roll

How about:
Angels rolled the stone away
Angels rolled the stone away
Early on one Easter Sunday Morning
Angels rolled the stone away

Jesus spoake to his father
While hanging on the cross

etc etc

Is that the one ??   I have a great recording by Professor Johnson's Gospel singers on an old 45 EP

That reads like it could be it - I only caught a fragnment, but it sounded pretty good on the recording I heard.

In the Góilín Club in Dublin Manus O'Riordán occasionally sings a song with the chorus

Roll away the stone Lord
Roll away the stone,

If my memory serves me right (and it often lets me down) the song he sings mentions Jim Larkin a famous and dynamic trade unionist and leader who together with James Connolly organised opposition to the bosses during the famous lock-out in Dublin in 1913.
Mudcat member Martin Ryan could I am certain, answer this query with greater authority than I

There's one that goes:

When the angel rolled (rolled) the stone (stone) a- (rolled the stone away)

The first part of the line ("Whentheangel") is all run together, and could sound like "who."
