From: WFDU - Ron Olesko

I am very honored to announce that my special guest this coming Sunday (May 23, 2003) will be Norma Waterson.   Norma will chat about the history of the Watersons and we will play a number of selections from the new box set "Mighty River of Song", Topic Records recent release that chronicles the history of the Watersons and the numerous groups that continue the legacy. During our conversation, Norma will reminisce about the early days on the scene of the folk revival and give us some insight into the songs they sang. She will share her memories of her sister Lal, her brother Mike and her husband Martin Carthy.

I hope that many of you can join us online for this broadcast.   My program, TRADITIONS airs from 3 to 6pm Eastern Time. The interview with Norma will begin at 4pm and will run for approximately 90 minutes.   You can listen in via our website at www.wfdu.fm .    If you are in the NYC metro area you can find WFDU at 89.1 on your FM dial.

Unfortunately we do not have the resources to archive shows on our website.

Pardon me being a bit thick - is your show running on your website ONLY at the actual time (your time) of broadcast?
Interested parties here (me for one)in the UK would like to hear it - so I just wondered if your show was 'streamed' for a period of time (as some stations do) - making it more convenient for us, I guess.
Otherwise, it looks like we calculate time differences and try for the 'once only' showing. Cheers. HFA

Yes, we stream LIVE on the internet through our website. The program will be heard ONLY from 3 to 6pm ET, with Norma's interview beginning at 4pm.

I wish we had the $$$ to afford the space required to archive programs for listening at other periods of time, but we are a non-commercial radio station and funds are tight. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Ron

Ron,
Could you record it and sell it as a little fundraiser for the station - with Norma's permission of course. I'd be first in line for a copy - cassette or cd.

Karen,

I wish I could, but there are significant rights issues with the songs. We have a license to broadcast, but not copy, recorded material. Since we use a number of recordings of the Watersons during the interview, I would need to obtain the rights to use the material on a cassette, even for a fundraiser.

Well I just tried to get into the site to see if I could successfully stream sound from it so that I might have time to fix any issues before the prog, and I click on the 56k version button and nothing happens.

I have had problems with streaming audio before - I get a bit, then it buffers and I miss a bit, and so on...

I have a pretty good 56k connection, usually shows as running at 49,333bps.

Sooo...?

I will have it checked Richard. It sounds like it may be a server problem.

56K connections are prone to dropouts, but not to the extent that you mentioned.
