I may consider taking my inane contributions elsewhere if this keeps up. Yes, that's a threat, not a promise. :-) Bobert, I had this art teacher in junior high that was gorgeous. Ay-yi-yi! Miss Delavan. I had a lot of fantasies about her. Then she went and married some guy named Mr Pinkney! Can you imagine? What a terrible loss. I was devastated. I am still devastated. It's simply not right! You took away my dream, Pinkney, and I want it back!!!!!! ARGH! Now I will hit "submit" and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait...for this darned post to actually get somewhere. |

That is just SOOOO high school in group of you! Those of you who use Mudcat as your clubhouse will never get it. It isn't just that so many of the personalities here are a bore. The main thing is, the website sucks. The search engine sucks, and Mudcat use is dropping because of it. And the supposed "music knowledge" in the forum is a joke. Wake up and smell the coffee, people. When over 80% of websites actually load, much less load faster than yours, your days are numbered. The website is irrelevant. The DigiTrad is pretty worthless at this point, because no one ever did anything to clean it up, do a decent cataloguing of it, and manage it like a real archive. Compared to other music lyric sites this one looks like a 15 year old did it. |

18 May 04 - 01:47 PM (#1187788) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: Little Hawk Oh! The emotional devastation at these revelations from the anonymous one who deigns to drop in here from time to time. I think it likely that the entire membership of Mudcat will shortly commit suicide en masse, having come to the realization that the tremendous importance they place on Mudcat has been a paltry delusion. Heh! Naw...ignorance really is bliss. We're having fun in our 15 year old sandbox. Hey, love, we don't come here because it's the best, we don't come here because there are or are not better forums, we just come here because we've been here a lot before and we're used to it. Period. There is no reason or justification necessary for things like this to occur. If you want to piss and moan about something, why not get mad about Howard Stern or the Aryan Nation or cross-breeding of Pekingeses or something else like that that really matters? |
18 May 04 - 02:06 PM (#1187804) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: Stilly River Sage Guest 18 May 04 - 11:06 AM needs to practice his freedom will and go elsewhere if he doesn't like Mudcat as it is. Personal attacks aren't tolerated if they're called to someone's attention. SRS |

"your days are numbered"....indeed...numbered in the thousands already! 18 May 04 - 09:52 PM (#1188164) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: Peter K (Fionn) The apparently independent, and negative, rating from Alexa (80-something per cent of sites are faster) reminded me that I somewhere saw reference to the Digital Tradition a year or so ago - acknowledging it as a fine resource but bemoaning that it is now housed on such an unreliable site (ie Mudcat). Is there no possibility that a university or other academic institution with proper resources might take on the DT? Catters are obviously and understandably forebearing about any shortcomings that interrupt the flow of the forum, but surely it would be desirable that researchers, performers, etc could access the DT whenever they needed to do so. |
18 May 04 - 10:04 PM (#1188169) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: Bill D Max has hinted at several ideas for better reliability, but it seems to me it is hard to achieve a situation where the hardware AND the management remain under his control. This is not something we want to be farmed out to someone with lots of computing power, but no idea of the history and 'feel' for what it is. Ideally, I'd love to see someone big simply fund it, and hire Max & Jeff to run it full time....but folkies are not a major item on the radar of most philanthropic organizations these days. Besides-- we don't keep out mouths shut about the world..*grin* |
19 May 04 - 12:34 AM (#1188213) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: The Fooles Troupe Actually, while the DT in and of itself is all very well and good, much more musical information is contained in the Forum Threads. And often times an 'offhand' comment, even in a BS thread, can be very illuminating musically. I would be against separating the two. My only real substantial complaint (musical) is about how long it takes for stuff to migrate from the threads into the DT, but I won't go into that, as that has been well and truly dealt with elsewhere, and I am not making a complaint, just registering my only real 'concern' about the Mudcat. There are enough "Folk Police" here... Robin |

I doubt that too many people are not getting to the site. Don - becoming an expert on Minesweeper means you're going to be getting a call from Halliburton - something about Afghanistan and mines. . . |

FWIW I do my site on a shoestring and need no equipment other than a PC so as I see it: whatever the 'Cat wants to provide is a bonus. Thanx Max. Anyone tried to post to BBC message boards lately - don't bother - I think there is a netwide push to change a few things and that is burdening/blocking some places. |
20 May 04 - 11:22 PM (#1190413) Subject: RE: BS: Is it me or is the Catbox gummed up?... From: Stilly River Sage Amazon doesn't care for attack "reviews."
