Mudcatter offers a great new service

The Kindness of Mudcatters often brings me to tears. So it was this past week when Rog brought home the mail. In it was a package from England. I'd forgotten that a new found friend among the Mudcat had offered to clean up my dad's Cow Songs tape and transfer it to CD. As I listened to the clear, strong, sounds of my dad's pickin' and singin'...so much better than the home-taped version, I just cried and laughed and cried some more...at the Joy of hearing my dad and at the Kindness of our own wilbyhillbilly.

Please check out his very nicely designed website at Vinyl Transfer and click on his Samples page. There you will find a sample of "before" and "after" of my dad's tape, plus there's a small blurb about him.

With what whb had to work with, he did a superb job and I am MOST grateful. His daughter and he have some great voices, too!(He also sent me a CD of them!)

So...if you have old tapes, vinyl, etc. that you want preserved, "freshened-up," scratches, etc. removed, wilbyhillbilly's yer man! He does a really thoughtful and great job, with obvious pleasure in the sharing.

Thanks, so much, whb! More proof that Mudcatters are the Best!

Very, very good kat!
Love the bit about 'entertaining the old folks', as long as he is thinking like that he'll never be old!

Thanks, Ebbie, I will!

FC - thank you, too. A few years have actually passed since that tape was made and the blurb written. He's now 87 and has slowed down quite a bit...his cat is really enjoying his company during her many naps.:-) He still practices everyday, though.

El Greko, you couldn't go wrong, imo.:-)

Thanks, all,

kat

Awww Kat, now I'm blushing, and I can't remember how many years ago since I last did that **bg**

Thanks for your kind words, but it was really a pleasure to work on the cassette, and I am now a
dedicated "Sparky" fan along with several of my friends and family who all think he is terrific.

I feel very privileged to be part of the Mudcat "family", I have never come across such a great
bunch of people before, the warmth and caring that can be found in various threads is unique.

Long live The Mudcat Cafe.

Thanks to you I have already received my first Mudcat Order, incredible!.

I would just like to let everyone know that on any "Mudcat" orders I receive 25% of the total
order will be donated to The Mudcat Fund, which may not amount to much but its my way
of being able to thank everyone for the help and kindness that has been shown to me in the
short time that I have been a member.

Ebbie, thanks for signing my guest book.

BTW the picture on my site header is my two and a half year old son Danny practising Twinkle
Twinkle Little Star with the Up and Over the Moon (Black Walnut) music track which we
managed to secure (with a little help **bg**) at the Mudcat Auction.

I figured that must be Danny. Darlin' boy and sure on his way to being a great musician and baby Mudcat!

My dad will be so pleased to hear about being a big hit cross the Pond. Thanks, again, so much!

Second order via Mudcat today, unbelievable, 2 in 2 days.

I can now add USA and Canada to my client list, does that mean little ol' me in the sticks can now advertise as INTERNATIONAL?? **bg**

Thanks for posting this. Was in touch with wilbyhillbilly, and things will go from there. Learned a neat phrase, too. He said, "Thanks for your custom" where a North American would have said "Thanks for your business." Cool.

I have had several enquiries regarding payment, i.e. cards/currency differences etc.

Due to a new service by Paypal which I now have on board, for anyone wishing to pay by credit card, I can now send an instant "pay now" Paypal button to anyone on the planet who has an email address, with details of the transaction, thereby solving any problems with various currencies.

Thanks for the encouraging emails I have received, my site is now taking around 100 hits a day which is not bad as its only been up a short time, so word must be getting about.

I am really looking forward to working on the various different projects I have received.

Thanks all

Listened to the samples.

What must not be forgotten, is that removing a band (or bands) of frequencies will leave a 'hollowness' in the sound - there is no such thing as a 'free lunch'. The result may dissapoint some, but for those with intense personal emotional interest, the results of cutting back all that noise are more than compensated for. And the human ear adjusts surprisingly well, given a few minutes.

I agree in principle with Robin, but having listened to the samples I felt that even after the cleanup loss of frequencies, MP3 compression and the dubious quality of my soundcard, that Sparky was in the room with me. What a huge improvement.

Shipping it all off tomorrow!

Exhausting to go through all the raw field recordings of our band and prioritize, and to try to see how I will use the resulting material. Just doing THAT I can appreciate all the hard work you are about to do, whb. Don't forge to charge for it. When you give it away too much, sometimes later you notice it's not fun anymore.

You know, before I sent our old gospel field tapes to whb, I was really pretty damn sick of hearing them. I spent hours going through them to see what I thought was worth asking him to clean up. Soon, all I could hear were mistakes we hope we learned from, long ago.

But I got a sample of his work in today's mail, and you know, I can't hear the mistakes anymore. And yet we do still sound like us-- but all I can hear is clean sound, people loving music, and a good time. I dunno where the sh*te went-- I hope it doesn't pile up around his place! :~) (Organize a sh*te-removal workbee Mudcat gathering!)

No, really, he's doing fine work, and we're so lucky he wants to do it. I know a lot of people who say they have the tools to clean up old sound. But wilbyhillbilly has the EAR and the HEART and the objectivity to do what we might otherwise try to do for ourselves. Like a good copy editor makes a good writer look REALLY good, whb lifts us up.

As a singer, in fact I think it's fair to say he gave me a vocal facelift. I sound much younger and much more, um, bright! :~) And I feel like singing again!

Thanks for your kind comments Susan, but I can hardly take the credit for making you sound younger, all the INGREDIENTS were already there, all I did was juggle the RECIPE a bit.

Glad you liked it

This sounds like just the kind of service I've been looking for, wilbyhillbilly, as I have tapes of my songs that I need transferred to CD without losing fidelity (and ideally getting rid of some tape noise at the same time). I'll PM you for more details.

Delighted to know Mudcat will get some support from this, too.

Wilbyhillbilly,

Your price quotes are per "side." Is that per side of original LPs, etc., or per side of final-result CD? (The latter, I hope!)

Seems like a great service you're doing us either way.

And he's a doll to do business with, too. I really think he cares as much about our work as we do.
