Thanks guest.

The festival also features Howden Jones in trio and full band mode.

I'm told there are also children's workshops on Saturday morning and there will be a craft fair.

Expect there'll be sessions too - I'll certainly be up for starting one or two when I get the opportunity.

Cheers
Sarah

Just be aware - don't think either of the pubs in Glasson have PELs - unless the festival organisers have arranged temporary ones...

Glasson is such a lovely place that I will be starting a session outside if the weather is fine enough. Outside the cafe by the lock would be ideal.

We were at Glasson Dock today, having biked from up the road in Lancaster. Didn't see any promotional material there - perhaps too early?

This is a new one on me as well - not that far away

website? flyers? lets have 'em who's running this show :-)

PEL - not as of last year and wouldn't think either pub would pass in current layout. Put it down to 2in a bar or spontaneous - we were alright last year, we were on a boat (Moving vehicle) singing for the "Spirit of Lancashire" Lovely compact venue.

Glasson Dock - Lancaster = 5 miles
Glasson Dock - Preston = 21 miles

Sure is Stu especially on that Bike (Give it Alan back he'll need it in September)

I think that for a festival it has a very good line-up for its first attempt.
Mudcatters one and all should support it and make it a success. I for one will be there.

Will try and get along on the Saturday - deserve support. Can't make it on the Sunday as I'm playing just a Little further south.

Subject: RE: GLASSON FOLK FESTIVAL JULY 2/3/4
From: PennyBlack

Wigan - the new "PEL" laws won't be in till 2005, and as such won't affect this years festivals at present the "Old" Two in a Bar rules still apply. When the new laws are implemented (as they appear to stand now)indoors or out won't make a difference.

We are still trying to get confirmation re Morris Dance teams who use amplification as it looks like they will need to work under a license, but nobody in officialdom is willing to put anything straightforward like "yes" or "no" in writing.

Hopefully we'll manage to get up for at least one of the days and it looks like it'll be a good "do"

cheers

you are letting it slip Penny.

24 Jun 04 - 12:31 PM (#1213596)
Subject: RE: GLASSON FOLK FESTIVAL JULY 2/3/4
From: PennyBlack

Guest, we don't wear slips!

The ways around it in the future (if it is a problem) are,

a) Hold sessions on boats - moving vehicles don't (and won't as it stands) require a license.

b) Acoustic only sessions outside (contact local council who should hold a license for this area) or Morris teams and their musicians.

When the new license comes in next year, from what we have heard from a lot of the pubs we've played at (and visited for other reasons :-) most will be asking for the entertainment section to be included - so hopefully it won't be a problem.

looks like the only "Window" we'll have over the weekend will be saturday night - so I'll have a chat with the I.G.B. at Mr Bells party this Sat and see if we can get up then - always enjoy a good session al-Fresco!

cheers PB

Nice one but can I suggest you buy a razor. It helps stop snags and ladders.

Oh yes it is this week end and I will be there.

We had a grand time too & thanks to the organisers who worked so hard.As it's a first festival, there are bound to be a few glitches so I don't think people should be too hard on them. In the programme & on the web site, Sat night in the Dalton Arms was billed as a folk club, which we saw immediately would have been impossible to run as such due to the room, etc and once such a wonderful session got going it seemed far better to keep it as such. Unfortunately the artists who were supposed to run the second half of the folk club, had only that one chance to do anything & I'm sure they didn't mean any harm. But enough of that, cracking music, singing, lovely friendly people, lets hope they have another one!!!
