03 Jun 04 - 03:55 PM (#1199586) Subject: Lyr Add: ROBIN HOOD (from Fred Wedlock) From: GUEST,Fantum Right here we go. Words stolen from a Fred Wedlock album. All mistakes are mine and I claim them. ROBIN HOOD (Dave Turner, as recorded by Fred Wedlock) Robin Hood was a bloke who robbed across the land Firing arrows here and there. He fired at the rich and he mowed down the poor And now and then he'd hit a passing deer. Maid Marion was his missus and she had two lovely eyes And feet as big as boats, But he let her hang around cos she's the only bird he'd found What would fetch him out his Nottingham Evening Post. Robin Hood was a bloke and he owned many bows, Kept 'em all nice and clean. He died in his prime at the age of 89 With a nasty case of eyeball gangrene. He was walking through the wood, this randy Robin Hood, With most of his merry men, When, to make this song real crude, by them dashed a nude And he never saw his merry men again. A man was being hung and Robin said, "That's wrong. I'll stop your ex-i-cut-i-on," he said. So he loaded up his bow and he let his arrow go And shot the poor bugger through the head. Now the friar's name was Tuck and he didn't give a damn. No, he didn't ever help them in a fight. He wouldn't help them hunt, the lazy idle friar. He just sat around and fed himself all night. Robin Hood was a bloke and he owned many bows, Kept 'em all nice and clean. He died in his prime at the age of 27 With a nasty case of eyeball gangrene. He had a fight on a log with a man called Little Jog And he made Robin look a proper twit. He up with his pole and he scored a perfect goal And knocked Robin flying in the water. When it came to singing songs, well, they could not go wrong. Their minstrel's name was Alan-a-Dale. He minstrelled through the day and he minstrelled through the night And they drowned him in a keg of Watney's Pale. Robin Hood was a bloke and he owned many bows, Kept 'em all nice and clean. He died in his prime at the age of 42 With a nasty case of eyeball gangrene. As long as birds are here, as long as blokes drink beer, As long as two and two make five, As long as clipper ships keep on smuggling cannabis pips, The name of Robin Hood will stay alive. It will bounce across the land. It will be passed from hand to hand, His deeds exaggerated by the gross. They'll glorify his name and cover up with fame The thieving robbing rat-bag that he was. Robin Hood was a bloke and he owned many bows, Kept 'em all nice and clean. He died in his prime at the age of 89 With a nasty case of eyeball gangrene. Bit of poetic license I think with Little John. Fred sang it with the age of Robin changing so I have copied that. He invited the audience to pick any number they liked. I learned it some years ago and ain't used it in yonks. Perhaps its time to take it out dust it of and go torture an audience somewhere. Lots of luck with it Fantum A guest because the machine don't love me |

05 Jun 04 - 06:05 PM (#1201078) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Robin Hood song From: Tig Here you are then. Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Riding thro' the glen, Robin Hood, Robin Hood, With his band of men, Feared by the bad, Loved by the good, Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood. He called the greatest archers to a tavern on the green, They vowed to help the people of the King; They handled all the trouble on the English country scene, And still found plenty of time to sing, Robin Hood ........ He came to Sherwood Forest with a feather in his cap, A fighter never looking for a fight; His bow was always ready and he kept his arrows sharp, He used them fighting for what was right. Robin Hood........ With Alan Dale and Little John, they had a roguish look, They did the deeds that others wouldn't dare; Recaptured all the money that the evil sheriff took, And rescued many a lady fair, Robin Hood ......... To cheating and corruption he would never, never yield, And danger was his breakfast ev'ry day; The cobbler in the hamlet and the farmer in the field Were always helping him get away. Robin Hood ........ He rode up to the palace and was cheered by ev'ry one, His Lady Marian threw him a rose; The King of England knighted him the Earl of Huntingdon, And that's the way the legend goes. Robin Hood ......... |

09 Jun 04 - 09:04 AM (#1203494) Subject: Lyr Add: ROBIN HOOD From: Jim Dixon Here's another version of the one Fantum posted. Lyrics copied from Folkal Point, weekly newsletter of the Wigan Folk Club. (I omitted chords because they weren't lined up with the lyrics anyway.) ROBIN HOOD (Words by John (?) from Aspull, with extra material by Monologue Joe) (Tune: Jesse James) Robin Hood he was a man and he roamed throughout the land Shooting off his arrows there and here. He robbed from the rich and he kept it for himself And he shot the occasional king's deer. He'd a fight upon a log with a lad called Little John Who made Robin look a proper twit; For John hit him with his pole, and he scored a perfect goal And Robin Hood went flying in the water. For Robin was a man and he owned a lot of bows. He kept them all nice and clean. He died in his prime at the age of eighty-nine From a bad case of eyeball gangrene. Maid Marion there she sits, she's got two enormous eyes And feet just like a pair of boats. Robin keeps her hanging round. She's the only girl in town Who'll give him his daily Nottingham Evening Post. Well a man was to be hung. Said Robin, "This is wrong." To Nottingham his merry men he calls. He gives his horn a blow, fits an arrow to his bow, And shoots the poor old hangman through the head. Now you've often heard the tale of dashing Allan-a-Dale Who wandered through the valleys and the hillocks. All the ladies they would swoon when Allan played his tune, And they used to waft the flies off his armour. He had the smell of Brut. He got pickled as a newt. He chased the girls through Sherwood all his days. He chased them through the pines and they used to call him Heinz, For he knew fifty-seven different ways. Will Scarlett often bragged about all the girls he'd kissed. At playing on the lute he was quite slick. He called the girls his pets, and they frequently took bets Whether he or Robin had the biggest bow. The Sheriff's temper ripped as he crept beneath the crypt. His plan to capture Robin was a farce; For his arrows they were blunt, and that stupid little sheriff Watched the arrows bounce off Robin's head. The Abbot he was rich, the dirty son of a woman. All day in the church his God he'd thank; But the outlaws stole his gold, so the story's told, When he went behind a tree to have a smoke. Now Mutch the miller's son, he didn't have any fun. All day on the toilet he would dwell. For from the very start all he did was cough And the outlaws said, "What's that bloody smell?" Now the friar's name was Tuck and he didn't give a damn. All day in the forest he would snooze. When the men went out to hunt, that lazy big fat friar Ate up all the food and drank the booze. As long as this here minstrel will sing his little song, As long as two and two make five, As long as we are here paying too much for our beer, The tales of Robin Hood will stay alive. They'll be passed from hand to hand, sung throughout the land, Exaggerated by the mob. They'll glorify the name and cover up the shame Of the dirty thieving b*****d that he was, Of the dirty thieving b*****d that he was. (Note from Joe Offer: Dave Turner is the songwriter) |

14 Apr 12 - 01:55 AM (#3338052) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Robin Hood song From: GUEST I realise this is rather a tenuous link, but the reference to Patricia Driscoll in Robin Hood caught my eye. When I was a very small child I loved to watch her presenting Picture Book on the BBC. I am sure the original theme tune to Picture Book was not Badinerie, as in the later episodes. It was a catchy tune, somewhat akin to the Sixties hit Popcorn. Can anyone confirm or help me with this, please? Thank you. |
