Lyr Req: Washington Irving H.S. Song

Both my wife & my mother attended Washington Irving High School in NYC. There was a school song that was sung to the tune of "My Hero" from the musical "Chocolate Soldier". I know the first line was
"Mine mine Washington Irving, the High School for me". One of the middle lines was " Onward, onward together, onward faltering never". Are there any native New Yorkers out there in Mudcatland that would remember all the words to this alma mata song ?

No success finding the song, but there's an interesting article about the school's history and architecture here.

Thank you Ada. Those were the words I was looking for. My mother also sang a song from Washington Irving HS entitled "For The Scool We Love So Well". Would you by any chance have the words to that song as well ? SOL ZELLER

Out on Long Island stands a fine High School,
Flushing by name; the oldest of all
Over on Flatbush Hill is a spry school
Known well to fame as Erasmus Hall.

Stuyvesant's fine, but only for brother
The Bronx has Science
Its pride and boast

Some favor one school,
some like another.
What is the high school you love most?
Waht is the high school you love most?

Mine, mine ........

Dear Friend of Washington Irving High School,
After one hundred and eleven years, the institution that is Washington Irving High School will graduate its final class of students in June of this year. Washington Irving is now in its final year of being phased out. This school has been a mainstay of the Union Square area since 1904, a model of opportunity and caring for tens of thousands through its existence. Students and faculty alike have called these halls their home, and alumni and past educators continue to work and volunteer in this historic building. Many people continue to feel a bond with this high school and its history, long after they have moved on to new stages in their lives, and many have expressed sadness at its termination. As a member of the WIHS family, we invite you to join us for a celebration of the history of this school.

Let's Celebrate Irving, an afternoon of remembering and rejoicing the life of Washington Irving High School, will include a collection from the archives, tours of the building, performances, and a chance to exchange treasured moments with students, alumni, former and current staff. Please come be a part of our celebration and share your perspective and memories.
