HARMONY wish list for 3.3.0

Now that I have got 3.2.9 out, I am looking for suggestions for the next version.

Current suggestions include :
Use of a proper music font - possible but a lot of work
Export of MusicXML

Any more?

PS. Some things I CAN'T do:
I will NOT be able to provide a version for MAC or LINUX
I will NOT be able to import MIDI files which have polyphonic channels

No suggestions then?

Haven't had time to run the new version - also I removed the previous version, and when I loaded this version, it was mostly disabled already - probably from the original install date.

The menu I previously mentioned as being offscreenis still that way and unusuable.

Pardon my ignorance:

What is HARMONY?

'HARMONY is a magnificant abc & MUSIC editor and player which provides almost all the facilities you will ever need in a Music package'

Well, maybe not quite, but it has some unique and useful facilities.
The original objective was to add chords (automatically) to a tune, but it has grown a long way from that.

It now provides import of tunes in various formats, including MIDI and abc.

It displays, transposes, adds chords and harmony lines, edits, plays and also writes MIDI output.

It can generate random tunes in a selection of styles (Jigs, reels), and can transform a tune into a round or play it backwards, to assist creativity.

It understands repeats and 'part specifications' such as A (AB)*2 (AC)*2

It can import and display multiple verses of aligned lyrics, in one or more voices.

And plenty more as well!
Thanks for asking, and it costs nothing to download and try it.

I forgot to mention, it is ONLY available for Windows (but that was noted above anyway)

Sounds GREAT! How does it compare to TablEdit, which I have been using for years?

The first thing to fixing a problem is to clearly identify exactly what is happening, then why - then you have a chance of fixing it!

OK, the 'file open offscreen to the left' matter.

I have found that the RIGHT hand side of that window seems to roughly align under the right hand side of the 'file menu' entry. If I shift the harmony main window right over to the right side of the screen, then I can get the file open screen on the monitor. It is very wide, and I have figured out why. I always switch on 'full path name for files' - some of the entries thus are very long - this is why the screen is so wide...

I am sure that I have seen this matter of displayed long file names dealt with by either compressing the full name with dots - and also perhaps there is some way when coding that ensure the LEFT side of that window is visible - I am not familar with what coding packages or libraries you may be using.

Hope this helps at last.

Robin

The open files menu is a Windows thing, I don't think I have any control over how it displays filenames, other than writing my own version, which I would rather not do. But I will investigate to see if I can control the position on the screen.

I have decided to go ahead with the use of a music font. It is almost ready now, just one or two minor position tweaks needed. Score looks much better.

Easy Rider - I don't know, I haven't tried that program. But if it is tablature - sorry, Harmony doesn't yet do that (Except for concertina)

Amos - see the first post.

I KNOW there is a demand, but Visual Basic just doesn't run on other platforms. I have investigated various options for porting, but none are practical.

The program includes several hundred modules, over 70,000 lines of code, and would take me YEARS to rewrite in another language.

Since I have only had a handful of registrations, there is no financial incentive.
