I heard the pre-manufacturing version, and it is a real cracker of an album. If you liked the first two Cloudstreet albums, then you won't be able to stop playing this. It really is their best so far. Jonny's and Vicki's collaboration is coming clear through - there are some wonderful instrumental passages and bass lines to die for and Vicki's smallpipes somehow challenge Nicole's flute to even grater heights. Jonny's guitar - what can I say, he's a "bastard" in the nicest possible sense of the word. The arrangements are if anything even more daring than usual, and they work brilliantly. From the opening title song, "Fiddleship", with its tempo and time signature changes, you KNOW you have something special in your CD player. Plus - this is a true Mudcat album, if there ever was one, with at least five Mudcatters involved, in one way or another. Buy and you won't regret. |
