Big Name (MC Fat) for Beverley Fringe

Subject: Big Name (MC Fat) for Beverley Fringe
From: Sir Roger de Beverley

The national televised press conference had to be cancelled but we can now announce that MCFat has been booked to appear at Beverley Festival Fringe:

Saturday and Sunday in the Sun Inn from 12 Noon running the all day singaround and Saturday from 8pm in the Oddfellows.

He has sent me some scurrilous posters to distribute in the town, but Mudcat is better for marketing events.

There are lots of other fringe events taking place but I haven't been involved in the planning this year so I don't have the details. Oombanjo is the man for that.

Perhaps those who know of other fringe events could post them here - only two weeks to go.

Roger

Neither the name "McFat" or even "Jim McDonald" is particularly large. The fat b*stard that it refers is definitely obese though. Why does Beverley want him and why does she have a fringe - these are the important questions

It is still called Beverley road if you drive the other way - from Beverley to Hull.

I think this thread has been hijacked already

Its so big this year that even the other big name El Ted has canceled his world tour to be a steward.

So if you see a bloke wandering around with nail varnish on one hand,a bull under the other, and a plastic guitar on his back,
ask him to play you a tune!

I for one will be spending an hour or six over the weekend in the company Jim Mc D'

I have heard that Kwame.D are playing in the Queen's Head one night and Kick n Rush in the Foresters - can anyone confirm these? Mick, are PTH at the Foresters on the Thursday?

No doubt the session in the Tiger will be running and I believe that the old time music people will be using Nellies again. But, as I said earlier, that is all assumption and I don't know any details.

Sir Rog ( or similar esteemed elder statesman of beverley)
Is there a fringe programme as such? That would make life easier. I believe PTH are at the Forresters on THURS 17TH JUNE

As I said earlier, I haven't been involved this year. Oombanjo has been our representative at the festival meetings. I assume that there will be a fringe programme but haven't seen one.

It may just be an oversight Les.

I know of several people who are coming over mainly so that they can go to the "iced gems at teatime" session. They'll be very disappointed if you aren't doing it.

Is anyone in contact with john (Oombanjo)? He turned his computer off ages ago for fear of viruses and I don't think that he will be reading any of this.

There was some suggestion of us doing Mariners, but they really wanted someone who played cajun stuff. Our name came up via Chris and Helen (Oddies), but my cajun skills are minimal so I passed the word on and hopefully someone else will do that stuff.

I'm sure that there will be an Iced Gems somewhere, and if there's a suitable venue available both days with decent beer etc available, then I imagine that we'll take it on. We'll have a chat with John on Sunday.

Oombanjo clarified things for us on Sunday:

MCFat is running the singarounds in the Sun Saturday and Sunday and running a session in Oddfellows on Saturday night.Oddies have a full programme of stuff on and I'll post that up here tomorrow

Les & Maggie to run their own sessions in Hodgsons, Friday, Sat & Sunday teatime (at least I think that they had agreed to that - but I left early. Hopefully Les will confirm.

Fiddles and accordians etc in the Tiger as usual from Friday night

Old time in Nellies on Saturday and Sunday afternoon plus Piping upstairs on Friday.

PTH at Foresters on Thursday

Anything else that I've forgotten?

John told us yesterday that a fringe programme will be included as part of the printed festival programme from the organisers of the festival proper. I think that their website has details of how to obtain the programme www.beverleyfestival.co.uk

Is this a deliberate ommission or an oversight?

I have produced some posters to put up in the pub advertising this session and have decided to bill it as "The Big Singaround". just a reminder that it will run from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday and will go on as long as people will sing/play - however, the landlord has bands booked for the evening so the singaround will have to finish by around 8pm.

Several of the regular players in the Sun are planning to turn up on Friday evening for a bit of a session in the back room from around 7.30. If anyone would like to join in, they would be most welcome. There is no band booked that night so that session could run on until late.

And if Oddies is packed to the doors for the Harri Watts Band on Friday (as I'm sure it will be), you can come along to the session in the back room of the Sun from about 7.30pm - or even switch between the two throughout the evening as they are only a few hundred metres apart.

I'm not sure what is happening at Hodgson's on Friday evening - is there a session or not? If so, what time?
