04 Jun 04 - 07:56 PM (#1200670) Subject: Review: Market Rasen Folk Club. 4th June. From: Georgiansilver What an evening of joy at the wonderful performances of three acts. The evening started with several songs from Lucy Wright and Paul Young( If you have not heard of them before, you soon will). Paul sung his first solo song tonight and proved that he is not living in Lucys shadow as her guitarist... not only is he becoming accomplished in his handling of the guitar but he has a voice in his own right. Lucy sung with her usual silk like voice and the audience were entranced by her once again. The main spot of the evening...Bill Whaley(NOT Haley I must point out) and Dave Fletcher gave a superb performance of not only great singing and instrument playing but wit and dry humour. Daves singing voice is incredible and Bills instrument handling is equally as good. The pair form a fine..no! better than fine duo who encourage audience participation. "Cara" the resident band who once again played "The Fairy Queen" on guitar/pipes and violin and in incredible sync, were again in good form and proved well worthy of their place in the evenings entertainment. If anyone sits at home in the Market Rasen area and complains that there is never anything to do there.....they are deluded...Go to your Folk Club and enjoy a quality evenings entertainment for a small cost. Seldom have I seen three such quality acts booked to appear on the same evening....in one Folk Club. Don't forget also that Gainsborough Folk Club is on alternate Fridays to Market Rasen and our sing-arounds also provide quality entertainment....."Stitherum"..."John Blanks" "Terry and Gwenda"..Lucy and Paul(as above) etc etc etc etc. There is no charge at sing-arounds!!!! Be Blessed all. |

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the night and the excellent turnout. I think there were 60 odd. I coudn't run the club without the artists or the listeners. I see us all as a team and making it all very enjoyable. |

04 Jun 04 - 09:00 PM (#1200696) Subject: RE: Review: Market Rasen Folk Club. 4th June. From: folkfan73 I just wrote a review of an excellent performance at Market Rasen Folk Club on my original thread that I started called "Market Rasen Folk Club June 4th". I didn't realise that Georgiansilver had started the review thread when I went straight to my Personal Page where I traced my thread. I would like to add great thanks to Les who once again booked three absolutely great acts all on the same night. Good on you, Les! :-) As I said in my thread, I went straight to Cara after the show to buy a CD and get them to sign it. I must thank Travelling Audience for lending me a tener to pay Cara for that CD! I am playing "The Notes in the Stones" album CD from Cara, now, with a glass of Irish Whiskey before I go to bed. |

Maybe Oakley can keep us informed on what they are doing over the summer. I am sure we will all be very interested. The same goes for Lucy and Paul who will be pretty active over the summer period. And they are only 19!!!!!! |
