A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club

07 Jun 04 - 05:28 PM (#1202271)
Subject: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club
From: Sooz

After much research and pub crawling Gainsborough Folk Club have found a new venue. We will have exclusive use of a very comfortable room at The Drovers Call (Lea Road Gainsborough. It will be absolutely non-smoking and there is plenty of safe parking. The room is big enough for us to book more well-known artists as well as to accomodate as many performers as turn up to take part in a singaround. Admission will continue to be free unless a guest has ben booked. Our first club night in our new home is on Friday 11th June at 8.30pm. Please try to join us for house-warming.

Take the road to Lincoln from Gainsborough and the pub is just past the station on the right, (Just about where the 40mph limit starts)

New beginnings....A different venue...less interference with noise from the occasional rowdies....private room.....more space to accommodate guests and larger crowds.....Beer is O.K.......Landlord and Landlady very amenable...(Landlady is Ex-Folk singer and may perform for us when she has dusted down the old guitar) ..........
Be Blessed. Mike.

I know that pub. I once camped on the grass at the back. Too far to travel from Oldham for a nights entertainment but best of luck to you all. Rick

For the short term, I have created a link from the other thread to this one so that mudcatters will only post on this thread.

Hey Richard. The enthusiasm of our members for our club and particularly our new venue is great and there could have been several threads started, as they all want everyone to know. However, sorry if it annoyed or upset you in some way. Be Blessed.

So, who is going to the new Gainsborough Folk Club on Friday?

I will be there, as long as the missus lets me. :-)

Sooz

Best of luck with your new venue. Our session in Bakewell is on its third pub at the moment but we've managed to hang on to it for a few years now.

The North Derbyshire "mule train" will be heading for the A1 Festival that weekend.

Sorry to have missed you at Castle Hills at the OT festival in February.

They'll probably change the name of the new venue from the Drovers Call to the Fishermans Net Les.....When Sue introduced this thread...she put.."pub crawling" instead of "trawling" round for a new venue...Be Blessed.

Good Luck - I liked the 8JB - you don't often get a choice of ciders let alone proper apples. And Perry on draught - well..............

Maybe one day I will get over there again.

What a night...OHHHH what a night!!!!!!! The first night at the new venue was incredible. There was a glut of quality performers and an atmosphere of pure magic...The prognosis for the future of this club is so good!!!!!! "The Drovers Call" will prove to be the making of Gainsborough Folk Club....There is space to do the things we could not do before and an amenable Landlord who will order whichever alcoholic beverages we may require. What more could a Folk Clubber want???? Good music and good booze......sorted!!!!!! What a Blessing on us all.
Be Blessed, Mike.

You beat me to the post, Travelling Audience! I had to reset my cookie by reloging onto the Mudcat site before I could reply to this thread. Due to virus threats, I had to delete my cookie files, beforehand.

It was a great night! I enjoyed it, alot, thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Sooz! Also, I like to thank all the performers who played on Friday night, and it was great that all the people who turned up joined in with the singing! It made the night a great night, a christening to the first night of the Gainsborough Folk Club at Drover's Call.

Thanks for having strongbow bottles so I can continue drinking cider on the folk nights, as well as whiskey and coke.

Be blessed, folkfan73!

A very well supported night and a very good night had by one and all.

Looks to be a far more suitable location with the owner of the pub showing a very positive interest in the night.

I do wish GFC success in their new venue.

Keith Marsden's song "The Drovers" was the anthem for the first night, and with around 50 joining in with the chorus, the Landlord's grin met somewhere round the back of his head. Mind you, that version of Barbara Allen will not be heard again for a while - I have a sore throat this morning and must be on top form for Market Rasen next week!

hehe

Baby Buff wears size 13 boots! We are currently trying to find a suitable name for our little duo. The duo is not new, it's about 20 years old. Started with Liam playing his rattle to dad's blues renditions, progressed through infancy, delinquency, schooldays, hormonal nightmaresville, university and now we're here, still singing Robin and Barry Dransfield songs twenty years on.

The new venue is cool. I always remember Sooz saying to me 'we never start until there's a bum on every seat'. I hope those bums continue to fill those seats on every folk night and I will support the club whether on my own, with baby buff, with Solace or with the Buffalo Brothers as often as I can.

Very best wishes and lots of luck with the Drovers Call. Coolest name for a folk club venue ever!

Allan

It was a great evening - I loved the song about the young German soldier in France - the gentleman that sang it wasn't bad either!! Wish I could get there every fortnight but it's a bit far away for a regular night out - sob sob!!

Buffalo and Kid      Buff and Son    Buffalo Generations
Buff Dad and Boy      Buffalo Boys    The Buffaloes
"Buffalo and Bigfoot" is my best choice
Perhaps a new name altogether as its difficulot to replace something thats good thats gone.

After listening to Steve Newton the Blues man at Market Rasen FC last night we think he would make a very welcome guest at the GFC.

I was very impressed with him. I have been listening to his CD for the last couple of weeks, and was thinking, if his live act is as good as his Cd then we are in for a treat. And we were.
Give Steve a bit of time, as that was one of the few times he has done a floor spot. Can only get better.
All my 45 minute Guest spotlights have gone for this year, but he will definately get one early next year.
Such a nice and modest man.
I particularly like his version of Cocaine Lil and Black Brown and White.

Be Blessed.
