BS: Bright Hopes from American Cities

Noteworthy: American Cities saying No to the Patriot Act

"In the past two years, more than 300 cities and four states have passed resolutions calling on Congress to repeal or change parts of the USA Patriot Act that, activists say, violate constitutional rights such as free speech and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure.

Barring that, the resolutions declare that their communities will uphold the constitutional rights of their residents should federal law enforcement agents come knocking on the door of local authorities for assistance in tracking residents. This means local authorities will insist on complying with federal orders only in ways that do not violate constitutional rights. The resolutions are not binding, however, and do not affect the federal government's actions."

Just say no to the Stormtroopers? Ya gotta love it!!! :>)

That is great to learn about, Amos. I have said, and I will continue to say: The American people don't take shit from no one--even their federal government. YES!

Right arm, brucie!!

I say we should elect the Dixie Chicks for President, with Oprah Winfrey for Security Advisor.

That would turn some stuff around in one helluva hurry.

Ya know, ya might be onto something there. Instead of a speech, we'd be able to listen to a concert. Use songs to address the State of the Union. No more fireside chats: interviews with Oprah instead. You are a GENIUS! There may be a small constitutional amendment required, but hey, Bush is rewriting that anyway. The Dixie Chicks would bring harmony to the nation--and the world. (That's almost a campaign slogan. Feel free to use it.)

Bruce M (fan of the next three Presidents all at once, or something).

There are some innovative things going on with librarians also, who are restricted from reporting to their superiors or to the subject him/herself if the FBI comes researching their habits. Things like putting lists on the door of "agencies that have visited this library today" and crossing off any that have indeed visited. The FBI is of course on this list. Another gimmick had to do with "if this sign disappears, the FBI has been here today," kind of a reversal of the other one.

I probably read it here, but it might have been on something sent around at the library where I work.
