Someone posted this fragment of GERALDINE'S THINKING OF GALWAY in a discussion forum at CelticRadio.net:

Oh, the dawn it is breaking.
Geraldine's waking
Far away from the place she calls home.
...
She always thought she'd travel
But she never intended to stay.
Geraldine's thinking of Galway,
And Galway's a long way away.

Geraldine's thinking of Galway again.
You can tell by the look in her eyes.
Sometimes alone in the nighttime, Geraldine cries.
She can still see the moon over Connaught.
O the sun going down in Kildare (?)
Geraldine's thinking of Galway,
And Galway's a long way away.

And the band it is playing.
Geraldine's swaying
To the tune of 'A Pair of Brown Eyes.'

[Recorded by The McKrells on "Live," by Bobby Bright & Laurie Allen on "Turning Point," by Tantallon on "Sail Away," by Pat McKernan on "Songs From the High Stool." McKernan seems to be the author. (Bobby & Laurie credit him.) You can download an mp3 file from his website (see last link), but you'll have to log in first. I didn't do that. If you do, and transcribe the lyrics, will you post them here?]

Thanks very much for the info. I appreciate your help, Jim.

GERALDINE'S THINKING OF GALWAY

Oh the Dawn it is breaking
And Geraldine's waking
So far from the place she calls home
The new day is dawning
And Geraldine's longing
for far away over the foam
She always intended to travel
But she never intended to stay
Now Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And Galway's a long way away

Chorus
Geraldine's thinking of Galway again
You can tell by the look in her eyes
Sometimes alone in the nighttime Geraldine cries
She can still see the moon over Claddaghduff
Or the sun going down in Kill-bay
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And Galway's a long way away

Oh the band it is playing
And Geraldine's swaying
To the tune of 'A Pair of Brown Eyes'
Somebody calls for a small bit of ardor
While the fiddler plays "Danny Boy"
As she listens the music transports her
To faraway over the sea
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And that's where she's longing to be

Slight correction. It should be as follows!

And Geraldine's longing
for far away over the foam

Hello there!

I am the guilty party responsible for composing "GERALDINE'S THINKING OF GALWAY". Lyrics as follows:

GERALDINE'S THINKING OF GALWAY
(Pat McKernan)

The dawn it is breaking and Geraldine's waking
So far from the place she calls home
The new day is dawning and Geraldine's longing
For far away over the foam
She always intended to travel but she never intended to stay
Now Geraldine's thinking of Galway
But Galway's a long way away.

Chorus:
Geraldine's thinking of Galway again
You can tell by the look in her eyes
Sometimes alone in the night time Geraldine cries
She can still see the moon over Claddagh
Or the sun going down in Clew Bay
Geraldine's thinking of Galway so far far away.

The band it is playing and Geraldine's swaying
To the tune of "A pair of brown eyes"
Somebody calls for a small bit of order
As the fiddler plays "Danny Boy"
As she listens the music transports her
To far away over the sea
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And that's where she's longing to be.

The song was first recorded on a CD of mine called "Songs from the high stool", which is now out of stock. I think there may be a few copies left from online seller THE CAN (no toilet jokes please from American readers!). There is a link to THE CAN on my website www.patmckernan.com
I will be re-recording the song this year for an album I am doing with Joe Fitzgerald, a great button box player from County Clare.

Thanks for your interest folks. Keep in touch via music@patmckernan.com

Hi, I first heard a version of this song called Geraldine's dreaming of Claddagh around 2007 - it was sung very well by a friend called John Bushby who originates from Tasmainia but now lives in the North East of England - I have often searched for the song in the hope of getting the lyrics and chords so I could have a go at singing it myself. At least I now have the words! Many thanks John Jeffrey

According to Kevin in this interview, someone from Austrailia sent it to him. One of the few songs they did, they he did not write

Hi folks. Would anyone happen to have tin whistle notes for this song?
