Breezy, I should John and Nicole (Cloudstreet) staying with me Sunday, and we'll just have finished our recording session. Assuming they won't be too knackered to come along, could they have a spot?

Hey Breezy, what are you doing to all these people appearing at the spotlight - they're all knackered before they start!! Is there something going on in Darkest St. Albans that we should know about?? (LOL)

Nah, Johnny, I am recording my 5th album (Ordinary Heroes) this weekend, with a list of collaborators to humble anyone: Saskia Tomkins fiddle, Miranda Sykes double bass, Anahata cello/concertina/ melodeon, Johnny Collins/Graeme Knights/Moira Craig AND Cloudstreet on vocals, plus others who shall remain androgynous for now (or did I mean "anonymous"?). The schedule is gruelling - 9am till 7-8pm in the studio Friday-Sat-Sun. But having finished the first day I am mucho excited. This is going to be a good'un!

Anyway, I will come to the club straight from the studio on Sunday, hopefully with Cloudstreet in tow.

Les, a thought: We might come with Miranda & Saskia in November, as a "northern" launch of the 5th album in Market Rasen. Perhaps Anahata too - I haven't asked him yet... How about it? We'll discuss...

Greko, you jammy sod! Please give my Gainsborough regards to Graeme The Voice and the superb Miranda, and I'm looking forward to belting a few out in support when you come o'er t'border to Market Rasen.
Have a good 'un tonight (I'll be at Newark listening to Paul Carrack - not folk, but a crackin' singer nontheless).

Blimey that sounds very interesting El Greko - as they say - It pays to talk.
Why don't you give me a ring!!!! (gold Preferably :-))

We are trying to produce a Lincolnshire Folk CD with all proceeds going to the Wish Upon A Star charity (the one that sends children to Lapland). Radio Lincolnshire are running it. Anyway Miranda amongst others has kindly donated the LIncolnshire Song written by her father. Lovely song and many thanks Miranda.

Mary Humphreys and Anahata will be appearing at Market Rasen Folk Club on April 22nd 2005.
Just a thought EG

Euro 2004 finally kicks off on Saturday, with host nation Portugal taking centre stage.
The opening ceremony will precede the first game of the tournament, a 1700 BST kick off between the Portuguese and underdogs Greece in Dragao, Porto.

Are you going to watch it? or wont you be able to stand the pain :-)

Is Lapland far enough away? I mean one of them might find their way back!
Seriously though, I miss the folk club scene these days, there is nothing happening up here in the highlands club wise, there are a few sessions, but they're in pubs, and as driving home is out, then going there in the first place is a waste of time. If I could find the right venue, I might start a monthly club up here, but apart from pubs, where does one look. A drink is an absolute necessity for most people at folk dos, I'm flummoxed, as they say.
Good luck with the St Albans session.
What match?

Don't Flame John, you know very well what match! (LOL)

I've been up in Inverness a few times this past two or three years and I thought there seemed to be quite a lot of music about (judging by what I saw/heard during the daytime), although I confess that much of it seemed to be of the 'Plastic Paddy/Jock' genre. Maybe the 'session' scene's taken charge and killed the clubs? Also I guess travel to Scotland's a daunting prospect for artists based South of the Border in the wastelands of England, but it's certainly not insurmountable, and beds can be offered for the night to keep artists' travel costs down.

Venues can be a problem - sole use of a room, cost, noise, PELs etc. - but again not insurmountable, we moved our club from its Ancestral Home this week (summat we were told was doomed to failure) and we had pretty much our biggest-ever attendance, 50-ish for a singaround!

Good luck should you decide to take the plunge and open a club, and I hope you feel encouraged. If you crack it i'll certainly visit next time I'm up there.
