12 Jun 04 - 01:26 PM (#1205841) Subject: BS: Misread Threads From: Rapparee I checked, but can't find that this has been done before. Often when perusing the titles of threads, I misread them and come back with a "Huh? Can't be!" Upon rereading the title I recognize my mistake, which is probably caused by reading too fast and mentally filling in the blanks to my own expectations. Anyway, here's how I've read some of the current thread titles: Reagan rupture Dicks have accents Nine Head Norsemen Hotmale trouble Ronald Reagan -- Madly Pissed How I read the thread titles may (sadly) say a lot about my mental processes! |

People who learned by the word-recognition method (as many of us do before we go to school) tend to get it wrong sometimes, especially when tired or when it's time for new glasses. Amos, did you hear about the guy who went to the doctor, complaining that he was troubled with extremely noxious, but silent, flatulence? Told the doc that he'd already passed such gas four times since they'd been talking. Doctor said, "Well, first thing we're going to do is get your hearing checked." So if I turn off my hearing aid I'll be okay? Next thing you know you'll want me to get a rocking chair and sit in the shade all day, sippin' decaf whilst hummin' "Shine on harvest moon" and "Back in the USSR" and other old folk songs. 13 Jun 04 - 10:53 AM (#1206208) Subject: RE: BS: Misread Threads From: freda underhill US big guts invading Australian politics Fat Americans have been commenting on Australian politics in recent days. Federal Labor president Carmen Lawrence said the United States administration had a lot of gall, throwing their weight round like this. Dr Lawrence's comments were the widest from any Labor figures in the wake of attacks by President George W Bush and other senior administration officials. Lawrence said that the comments were a load of blubber, and that US-Australia alliance would not be corseted by obese fat cats feeding the electorate with offel comments. But Dr Lawrence said it was unseemly for US officials to become involved in Australian menus. "Australians are a proud people and don't much like being told how much to eat by other governments," Dr Lawrence said. "The relationship between our two countries goes much wider and broader than that. Asked if she thought the US government was working to re-elect Mr Howard, Dr Lawrence said: "I have to say the bloating of some of the comments must lead to that digestion." |

I facetiously posted that at first I thought, from the title, that the thread was about Spaw. But that was only partly facetious. I did - until I read some detail about the recommended generators -- take the title to mean the thread was about machines that generate gas. I had never heard of such equipment (aside from flatulent humans and other mammals) and wasn't sure if it was some new technology to bypass the Gas. Company and retrieve your own natural gas, or maybe some method of capturing methane (e.g., from your farting cows or your compost heap) to be used as fuel. It was only after reading some detailed posts that I realized it was about gas-powered electricity generators, not gas-generating equipment. |
