Someone mentioned "The Ark" in Ann Arbour, Michigan as having about 300 live shows a year. Wow! Must be a great folk club. I'd like to hear about some more great folk club/coffeehouses in the USA, Canada, even the UK...specially those that would be friendly to modern singer-songwriters of a folkie sort, rather than being too exclusively trad in nature. I'm figuring places where you would hear fine acoustic players doing their own original material, with a few trads and covers mixed in, maybe.

LH- There are very few REAL Folk venues in UK that run more than once a week , and most of those are worth inclusion - The list would be TOO long . A number of 'Art Centres' have a high level of Folkie stuff , and a good example would be Windsor Where (Liz has a big house ) The Art Centre there has an Open Mike three times a week ,with a booked artist at the Sunday session , and also has regular Big Name Cocerts as well .

Lincolnshire is the place for Folk in UK. The quality of Folk clubs and music emanating from them is incredible....Have to include Hull in this as it adjoins us....Come and see for yourself(sorry ....Hear). Gainsborough/Market Rasen/Lincoln etc etc.
Be Blessed.

Oh, I am, Georgiansilver. :-) As are we all. Thanks!

And where exactly did all the North Americans go today?

Pub and Duds, a club-cum-bar-cum-laudromat here in Pocatello, is pretty good.

The best one is the one you can *walk* to... No designated drivers.

Unfortunately, I ain't got any within walking range. Thta's what harp players are for. They drive and they're too busy playing harp to drink much...

But seriously, I used to play at a coffeehouse in Richmond, Va. called "Crossroads" and I think it's still there some 30 years later...
