Lucky me, I have a new arranging partner. So, Louis, how about this way for the song, in G? (Still not sure what key we'll eventually land in.)

Whole lyric follows below.

~S~

1. (G)There's a sweet for- (C)ever,
And it's (G)just across the (C)river,
(G)Where we will (C)never have to (D)cry.(D7)
And (G)there no sorrow (C)will be.
In that (G)land, oh, we'll (C)be free,
(D)Giving praises (C)to our (G)God.

REFRAIN:
(D)I'm going to (A)hold
To the (C)Savior's (D)hand.
(D)I've got a (A7)home
In the (C)sweet forever- (G)land.

SWEET FOREVERLAND

Learned from the singing of the Sensational Nightingales on their 1982 Malaco LP, "He is Real." Heard on WFMU radio's Sinner's Crossroads with Kevin Nutt.

1. There's a sweet forever,
And it's just across the river,
Where we will never have to cry.
And there no sorrow will be.
In that land, oh, we'll be free,
Giving praises to our God.

REFRAIN:
I'm going to hold
To the Savior's hand.
I've got a home
In the sweet foreverland.

2. There'll be singin'
And there'll be bells a-ringing;
The angels will be clappin' their hands.
And there'll be hearts a-prayin'
Oh the people will be sayin'
"Glory to the precious Lamb of God."

3. He's the One who led us
Through the weariness and bareness--
Jesus is the One who held us in his hand.
Children, we will never
Have to leave the sweet forever
Where there's no sorrow nor pain.

Susan,

Yes, this is excellent. You corrected my mistake in the refrain where I had it going to G, but it goes (as you note) back to D and THEN goes to G in the last bar.

The only difference I could add, now that I heard it again, is that the G modulates to a G7 on the bar before the refrain.

Giving praises to our (G)God (G7).

"Glory to the precious Lamb of (G)God (G7)."

Where there's no sorrow nor (G) pain (G7).

The chords are very simple so finding a suitable key will be as easy as cake. Or pie.

I think the G7 comes in a stroke just before the beat into the refrain-- just before that D that opens the refrain on the beat.

from the end of verse 1:

(D)Giving praises (C)to our (G)God.

REFRAIN:
(G7)(D)I'm going to (A)hold
