19 Jun 04 - 10:55 AM (#1210433) Subject: New folk club in Hertford From: jacqui.c We've found a new home for Hertford Folk at The Millstream in Port Vale, Hertford on Wednesday 14th July from 8.30 onwards. Initially this will be a fortnightly event but, depending on take up, may become a weekly meeting. Any singers or musicians interested please come along. All folk performers welcome. For those who don't know the area you can find it on Streetmap. Port Vale is a no through road with bollards separating the two ends of the street. You will need to access via the Beane Road end. There is a car park. Hope to see you there. |

20 Jun 04 - 06:56 AM (#1210819) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: jacqui.c Hi Breezy Can't make either I'm afraid. I'm spending this weekend getting the place tidy and then packing to head for the States on Thursday to spend a few days with Kendall. We're going to Old Songs next weekend - it's a bit far to travel back, even for that good a line up. Life has got a bit busy but I am intending getting over to your neck of the woods as soon as I can. |

20 Jun 04 - 05:08 PM (#1211080) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: McGrath of Harlow Fall of the Bastille July 14th, French National Day, jacqui. (The football relevance is that the French hammered the English a few days ago in Euro 2004, and some people take that kind of thing personally...) |

21 Jun 04 - 11:05 AM (#1211433) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: Dave Bryant Perhaps we should have a special night on the theme of transatlantic 'catters who come over here to steal the cream of our womanhood we could call it "Overpaid, Oversexed and Over here" :-) |
|
22 Jun 04 - 07:37 AM (#1211963) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: jacqui.c Why, thank you Mr Bryant for that compliment! I'd be interested to hear what songs you think would suit such a theme. Kevin - hadn't given either the football or Bastille Day a thought. Actually it was 'audience' AKA Carole, who sorted out the pub and the date and I just got the publicity under way. Mind you - a guillotine for unwelcome visitors (Avril Betts or the like?) might be a good idea. Who wants to do the knitting? |

15 Jul 04 - 08:07 AM (#1225967) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: GUEST,Keith A of er Hertford Bad luck if you missed it, but another chance in 2 weeks. More a singaroundthan a club, so it's free! If like me you sometimes nip into the toilets for a practice but it never sounds so good when you come out, then you will like this venue. It has the accoustics of a 5 star bathroom. Keith. |

It was a pretty good night for a starter - a few more people would have made it better, everyone's turn camr round too fast. Thanks in particular to Jan, Anne and Adrian from Waltham Abbey Folk Club, along with the usual suspects from Hertford. Next one in a fortnight's time, the 28th July, MC for the evening will be Carole (AKA Audience). |

16 Jul 04 - 11:34 AM (#1226972) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: Dave Bryant Oh Jacqui - and I was going to ask you if you wanted me to scrub your back for you. We're off for a long weekend down in the Dorset area at the end of the month - might even manage to get across to Sidmouth for the odd day, so I think we'll be too busy getting the caravan ready to get to the the next one. Hope it goes well - must try and get along some time. |

16 Jul 04 - 05:14 PM (#1227217) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: breezy please clarify, is this a free singaround/session? i.e. no booked guests planned. |
|
16 Jul 04 - 05:19 PM (#1227223) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: GUEST Breezy - we're starting as a singaround to see what interest we can get. If it takes off and the landlord's agreeable we might look at booking guests in the future and becoming a proper club. It all depends on the take up. Dave - might see you Sunday night at the Black Lion? Love to Linda. |

16 Jul 04 - 05:29 PM (#1227234) Subject: RE: New folk club in Hertford From: breezy thats how we started the St Albans club but we built up a fund by contributing £1 a meeting for a year, sometimes only 5 turned up, and I was the only singer, so I sang for over 2 hours till closing time. The rest is history. This Sunday Lucy Wright with Paul Young will be joined by Michael Wright at the Spotlight.Legion Verulam Rd, St Albans Lucy is being heralded as the best new voice on the scene and only 19 |

Time is now a little short as I have just put my house on the market and am heading off over the Pond to Maine once it's sold. However, we will be back on a fairly regular basis. |
