Tech: E-mail attachment ATT00030(229B)?

I sent an e-mail with no attachments, and it arrived with an attachment named ATT00030.txt(229B).

From what I've read, if it just was called ATT00030.txt, it would be a file created by her e-mail program to handle something Eudora sent along with my e-mail, and it would be harmless.

If it was called ATT00030.txt.src or ATT0030.txt.exe it would be a virus.

But what the heck is this 229B? Anyone heard of it? Could it be something else her e-mail program stuck onto it? I don't know what program she uses, guess I'll ask her.

Thanks,
Rita F

Attached biz card or signature file? 229B being the size of the att?

A quick Google search doesn't suggest anything nasty.

"If in doubt, throw it out" may be a good idea, though.

there are lists of infected messages on
Norton and Macafee sites. Symantec and
Network associates would be the sites.
It does sound suspicious.

I'll go along with Susan - it's just the size of the file (and very small).

I received an Excel spreadsheet this morning which says "Accounts.xls(148KB)" and it is actually that size.

Thanks! It was the 229B that confused me.

I certainly never thought about it being the file size.... Don't think I ever even saw a file sized in bytes (rather than kilobytes) before!

bytes are very small--hardly worth mentioning!
