I had the privilege of seeing, hearing and meeting Martyn in person here in the USA (in Arkansas!) a few years ago. There is none better. His voice is fantastic, good guitar, and personality plus. You are in for a treat. I wish I could be there, but it would be a long hike and an even longer swim. A very nice guy and an enormous talent. |

Martyn at his best gave us 90 minutes of cracking songs, including some of his newest ones intended for the next album (soon, Martyn, soon!). I was blubbing quietly in the corner (he has that effect on me, with his wonderful voice), but I saw a few misty eyes round the room. Once more, the floorspots are showing the strength the club has built over the years both in residents and frequent visitors: Clive and Sue Carey, Lynne Heraud, Chris Flegg, Steve Last and Christine Connolley all delighted us with a variety of sounds from trad to contemp, not to mention the Birthday Boy himself. Ah, did I forget to mention that it was Breezy's NNNth birthday? Well, we surprised him (and embarassed him, no easy feat) with one of Christine's stunning creations (and a cake). And he paid us back with "Swallow's Wing" and "Stilts" (the latter with yours truly, including all the latest "moves" - The Shadows? Ptui!) And of course, to cap it all for me, GREECE BEAT FRANCE at Euro 2004... But then, it was no more than I expected - see my post above this. |
