28 Jun 04 - 12:34 PM (#1215602) Subject: BS: Name that beer festival From: GUEST, Gizza Pint My colleagues and I are putting together a beer festival to be held in early February, 2005 and we need a name for it. Suggestions please both sober and silly. Winner gets free tickets. I don't want to go into too much detail, but it will be in a Canadian city west of the Rockies. |

Call it the (name of Canadian city west of the Rockies) Beer Festival. it's not imaginative, but it's precise, accurate and lets people know what kind of festival it is, and where to find it. |

29 Jun 04 - 04:58 AM (#1216051) Subject: RE: BS: Name that beer festival From: Geoff the Duck I would say it is essential to have something in the name which identifies clearly WHERE the festival is taking place (i.e. tells people which town/city/whatever). Once you have identified your location, then add something either informative and/or silly. Remember Beer Drinkers do not necessarily require something which taxes the brain. For many years I was involved with Bradford Beer Festival (Yorkshire, England). That was what it was called. Easy to understand. Once that principle was established, we changed our theme for atrwork/t-shirt design/posters etc. each year, and added the theme to our festival name in some way. Here is a blue Clicky to lists of UK Beer Festivals CAMRA - the CAMpaign for Real Ale. In some cases the name or nickname of the place would suggests the beerfest name, but often there isn't a good alternative. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |

29 Jun 04 - 06:21 AM (#1216080) Subject: RE: BS: Name that beer festival From: MudGuard Before I start thinking about the name for the festival: Will the tickets be economy class or business class? Which airline? Which is the nearest airport? How are connections from Munich (MUC)? ;-) Now about that name: As the festival is in February, it might be cold. So what about <yourtownname> Cold Beer Festival or - if temperatures are usually below 0°C in your place in February <yourtownname> Frozen Beer Festival |

29 Jun 04 - 08:45 AM (#1216145) Subject: RE: BS: Name that beer festival From: Rapparee Hmmm...I was born in early February. Call it "Rapaire's Annual [insert city name] Beer Stampede." For free tickets I won't even complain about the use of the name. Is the beer free as well? |

29 Jun 04 - 08:52 AM (#1216148) Subject: RE: BS: Name that beer festival From: greg stephens In case you do call it (town name) Beer Festival, just to let you know I will be claiming my prize. But I have a query, how many free tickets is "free tickets"? And also, could you run to travelling money as well, would that be a possibility? I live in Stoke, England, and having looked in an atlas I see that Canada, west of the Rockies, is actually quite a considerable distance from my front door. |

29 Jun 04 - 06:27 PM (#1216591) Subject: RE: BS: Name that beer festival From: GUEST, Gizza Pint Don't worry greg -- first, there's not a cat in hell's chance you'll win with that suggestion, but if you come up with a better one (much better ;o) I'll happily buy you as much ale as you can get down your neck. The tickets are for admission only, sorry, no airfare. I'm looking for a one-worder, if possible. Something grandiose. |
