From: Dani About a week ago I heard a folksinger named Erika Wheeler sing in the lobby of the Kennedy Center - they have free concerts there every evening! What fun! It was a good scene. You all were busy at the Getaway, but maybe can answer a question for me? She sang a song that she said Claudia Schmidt wrote. I'm not familiar with her, and couldn't find the lyrics here or on int'l server. It's a simple, short song, and she sang it a capella (with her hat on) and it went something like, " There's hope in those far hills" ...then more, and "There's love in those far hills" I'm not being much help, am I? But if there's a fan among us, perhaps you could help me track it down? |

From: northfolk Claudia Schmidt is a singer that I used to see all around Michigan, but have not seen in at least a couple of years. She has a strong full voice and wrote and sang beautiful songs...she sang very often with Sally Rogers, before she moved east...I can't say I recognize that song, but if all else failed, you might try a phone call to Elderly instruments, in Lansing Michigan. I suspect they both can and would help you. |

There is darkness in these hills, but I am not afraid. There is darkness in these hills. Though some may tremble, I am still. Hope lives in these quiet hills. There is darkness in the land; I seek the taste of hope. There is darkness in the land; I seek the taste of hope. There is darkness in the land With sorrows more than we can stand. Hope lives in these quiet hills. There is darkness in my heart, but the taste of hope is sweet. There is darkness in my heart, but the taste of hope is sweet. There is darkness in my heart, Yet I can feel the healing start. Hope lives in these quiet hills. There is darkness in these hills, but I am not afraid. There is darkness in these hills, but I am not afraid. There is darkness in these hills. Though some may tremble, I am still. Hope lives in these quiet hills. One thing about the lyrics - I hear: "There is darkness in these hills, but I am not afraid" Erica Wheeler uses a different melody, and I like it a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE-47P98MNU The interpretation by Laurie Lewis is similar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kijhrX7rlxE I wonder if this link is more likely to work in the UK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKjcPACUlog |
