Em to the rescue! MOUNTAIN FIELD Pete Sutherland It's one more year this mountain field I'll till It's one more year this mountain field I'll till No stones or buried sticks Begin to play me tricks I wish I knew my darlin's heart so well When it was fine and dry I prayed for rain When it was fine and dry I prayed for rain But when those drops did fall Many weeds grew tall Well, it's then I wished the sun would shine again A farmer plants by season and by sign A farmer plants by season and by sign Not so, love's buried seed; It's sown in time of need And it will not grow but by its own design I think those are all the words. Check out Metamora's self-titled album or sally Rogers/Claudia Schmidt's second album (can't remember the title). |

I'd never heard this song before (though it's by an artist who works and lives in VT (Pete Sutherland, a good writer, great fiddler and none-too-shabby producer of records). But last Saturday, the 15th, I went to a Jay Unger/Molly Mason concert and she sang this one. Obviously Pete has not learned about the way Vermont fields kick up new rocks ande sticks and boulders and ledges practically every year. Ah well, poetic license. susan |
