13 Jul 04 - 09:14 AM (#1224518) Subject: Galax '04, Mudcatters going? From: Fortunato Susette and I are going to Galax for the first time. Fortunately in the company of Tom Mindte, a long time attendee. Are there other Mudcatter's going? We plan be in line for camping sites at 6 or so on Sunday Morning, August 8th and stay through Saturday. We'd like, as always, to meet up with Mudcatters. Any advice would be welcome as well. cheers, Chance |

Atmosphere like a big county fair with camping and more Martin Guitars and guitar players than you can see anywhere else on earth. The Folk Song contest starts at about noon on Saturday. Sandy and Elizabeth will probably be singing-- they usually do. |

15 Jul 04 - 09:51 AM (#1226067) Subject: RE: Galax '04, Mudcatters going? From: GUEST,artemis you must really like people and RVs to go to Galax. Just row after row of RVs all crammed together on a football field in the middle of a small mountain town. I'd rather play alone outside in the woods... |

From: biglappy Artemis, You didn't mention the terrible food and the dubious bathrooms (in addition to the RV's you don't care for). On the other hand-- I heard Tommy Jarrell, Wade Ward, Clark Kessinger, Gene Meade, Kyle Creed, Otis Burris, Benton Flippin, Wayne Henderson, George Pegram, Albert Hash, and so many other great musicians live for as many hours as I cared to listen. They were not on a distant stage, either. They were close enough to touch. They played my favorites. They thanked me for my interest in their music. |

16 Jul 04 - 10:41 AM (#1226943) Subject: RE: Galax '04, Mudcatters going? From: Fortunato Well if there's people who like and play old time music in those RVs, then I'll enjoy being amongst a small "city" of people sing and play and dance in the old time way. Susette and I learn new stuff and rehearse our current repertoire and take hours to add to it. We come away recharged and ready to perform. Haven't been to Galax, but it's worked elsewhere. Reckon I'll take your advice about the food and the toilets, though. cheers, Chance |
