Lyr Req: Paris, here I come

At this past Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival, one of the volunteers, Mike Kennedy, sang "Paris here I come" at one of the sessions. In the hustle and bustle of the fest, I didn't get Mike's contact info. He mentioned that he learned it from a tape of the Harry Brownes of Bristol. It's one of those gems that hasn't yet made it into the repertoire of many U.S. chantey singers, I don't think. I couldn't find it in the DT, and wonder if anyone could post the lyrics. Thanks in advance! (or if you know how I can reach Mike Kennedy)

The Harry Brownes are appearing at Swansea Maritime Festival this weekend. I'll see if I can get anything from them.

I mean "wish I was there." I wouldn't want to be turned to "therte."

According to this Directory of Shanty & Sea Song Recordings - UK, PARIS HERE I COME was recorded by The Harry Brown Shantymen (Bristol, UK) on their cassettes "Whirr Bist Headin' to Cabot?" and "Shipshape & Harry Fashion."

There's a sound sample this web page:

Paris, here I come, drinkin' all the way-o. (2x)
See a man from home with something to say-o.
Way hey and we'll merry be. (2x)

Chum (?) go home, go home, someone's got your girl-o. (2x)....

Thanks to Radriano, who saw this thread and transcribed the lyrics from the Harry Browns's CD. Thank you, too, Jim Dixon and Snuffy for your posts.

PARIS HERE I COME (as sung by the Harry Browns Of Bristol on "Shipshape And Harry Fashion.")

Paris here I come, drinking all the way-o
Paris here I come, drinking all the way-o
See a man from home with something to say-o

Chorus:
Way-hey,and we'll merry be
Way-hey, and we'll merry be

John go home, go home, someone's got your girl-o
John go home, go home, someone's got your girl-o
I say let him come, want no more of her-o

Chorus

All her love I had, none can take her place-o
All her love I had, none can take her place-o
In a fine big bed, overhung with lace-o

Chorus

I had three sons, captains one and all-o
I had three sons, captains one and all-o
There's one at Bordeaux, two at La Rochelle-o

Chorus

And the youngest there, through the world astray-o
And the youngest there, through the world astray-o
Like his father here, drinking all the way-o

Chorus

It's still not clear if this is a new song or a traditional song. The Harry Browns of Bristol certainly sing it on their CD titled Shipshape And Harry Fashion. Can anyone clarify this question?

Mike Kennedy doesn't know the answer for sure either and the Harry Browns website seems to be down.

Cheerily,

I'd like to give a big thanks to Ken Lardner of ChantyCabin, because he steered me to that Harry Brown's CD & a few others when we met at the 2002 Lancaster Sea Music Festival.

It was in response to the query... I have this much money left... what would you buy?   LOL

Mike promtly commandeered them and started learning the songs we didn't already know. Good choices, Ken.

For those who care, I managed to track down the book that has "Paris, Here I Come" in both French & English. I found the 2007 printing.

The original song is "Passant par Paris": lyrics and literal translation on another Mudcat thread and sheet music on some other site.

Thankyou so much, Monique -
I'd been asking the very same question of both Peter and Richard, after having great fun duetting on this very chantey only a week or so back!

That'll teach me!! For I almost always use Mudcat as my first port of call (ha!) for lyrics, but this one must've slipped thru my net (ha! again)...
Ca alors!! Quel dommage...

A demain, Monique!
