20 Jul 04 - 01:00 AM (#1229592) Subject: ADD: Silly Eileen From: Uke At Joe Offer's request, here's another unknown lyric from the anonymous songbook I mentioned here which is from the 50s (I think). Haven't had much luck finding a tune for "The Bartender's Song", but maybe someone out there remembers a tune (or more lyrics) for this: Silly Eileen Up in the Aleutians, miles from anywhere, Sitting in his tent, brushing ice-cubes from his hair, Dreaming of her most exotic kiss, With frozen hand, he writes her this: (Chorus) I promise I'll be true, My own Silly Eileen, Cause girls are so darn few up here, My own Silly Eileen. Down among the Marshall's, sweating 'neath the palms, Hardly resisting a mosquito's loving arms, And missing the things we're fighting for, "And sure, what's more," they answered all... Seems to be an armed services song (WW2), maybe a parody of something else, I don't know... |
