You may also want to check The Night Visit, by Christy Moore - and the songs crosslinked there. You may also want to do a DT Keywords Search for nightvisit. We have a number of songs listed there. Good luck. -Joe Offer- |

23 Jul 04 - 02:34 PM (#1232356) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Night Visiting Song From: Murray MacLeod THE NIGHT VISITING SONG [G}I must a[C]way [G]now I can no longer [D]tarr[G]y. [G]This morning's [C]tem[G]pest I have to[D]cross. [D]I must be [G]guided without a [C]stum[G]ble [G]Into the [C]ar[G]ms I [D]love the [G]most. Well when he came to his truelove's dwelling. He knelt down gently upon a stone. And through the window he whispered slowly. 'Is my true lover within at home?' She's lifted her head from off her down white pillow. She's lifted the blankets from off her breast, And through the window she's whispered slowly. 'Who's that disturbing me at my night's rest?' 'Wake up. wake up, love, it is your own true lover, Wake up, wake up. love, and let me in. For I am wet, love, and also weary. Yes I am wet, love, into my skin.' She's raised her up with the greatest of pleasure. She's raised her up to let him in. And they were locked in each other's arms Until the long night was passed and gone. And when that long night was passed and over. And when the smoke clouds began to grow, He's ta'en her hand, aye, they've kissed and parted, He's saddled and mounted and away did go. The chords follow the same pattern for each verse. I assume that you want to sing it yourself, G would be a normal choice of key for the average male voice. Women would probably sing it in D, but it should be fairly simple to work out the conversions. |
23 Jul 04 - 03:31 PM (#1232382) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Night Visiting Song From: Q (Frank Staplin) This song is in the DT. Mudcat also has the midi. Music, lyrics, ABC, etc., also at Numachi: Night Visit Tune- "The Sweet Bann Water." Chords and different words (The Dubliners) at Night Visiting Several recordings. See "The Grey Cock," Child 248, esp. Bronson, 248-9, "Fly Up My Cock," "The Singing Tradition of Child's Popular Ballads." Two versions of "The Grey Cock" are in the DT, but "Fly Up My Cock" is not yet posted(?)- haven't checked all the threads yet. The blue links need the addition of the Grey Cock threads. |

24 Jul 04 - 03:02 AM (#1232668) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Night Visiting Song From: Little Robyn Just a suggestion - instead of going to a G at the end of line 3, try a D instead, and then don't change back until after the first syllable in line 4:- [G}I must a[C]way [G]now I can no longer [D]tarr[G]y. [G]This morning's [C]tem[G]pest I have to[D]cross. [D]I must be [G]guided without a [C]stum[D]ble [D]In[G]to the [C]ar[G]ms I [D]love the [G]most. That's the way Kilderkin used to do it although they used 4 voice harmony, not guitar, to make the chords. Robyn |
