24 Jul 04 - 08:04 PM (#1233110) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: we gotta put the shoes on willie From: Jim Dixon Earl Hooker recorded PUT THE SHOES ON WILLIE as a single on the Checker label, #1025, in 1962. Bo Diddley covered PUT THE SHOES ON WILLIE on his LP "Bo Diddley and Company," Checker #2985, 1963; and it was reissued on the Bo Diddley CD "The EP Collection," See for Miles CD #321, 1991. There it is credited to "Hooker." Hezzie is offering a Korn Kobblers CD called "A Real Earful" which contains the song, but it gives the title as WE GOT TO PUT SHOES ON WILLIE (Note, no "the".) Sagamore Records also has it. I couldn't find a date for that recording This site says The Knaves recorded WE GOT TO PUT SHOES ON WILLIE as a 78rpm record in New Zealand. |
