This version of Haul Away, Joe, sung by Stan Kelly. I think I have just one problem in the transcription (but maybe there are more mistakes than I'm aware of). It is in the first stanza. Please, help. Thank you. Roberto Talk about your harbour girls, Round-the corner Sally Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O But they wouldn't go to ... (tea???) with the girls from Booble Alley Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O King Louie was the king of France before the Revolution Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O But the people cut his off and it spoiled his constitution Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O Well now I live in Liverpool bound for the Bay of Mexico Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O I thought I heard the Old Man say – It's time for us to roll and go Away, haul away, haul away me Rosie Away, haul away, haul away me Johnny-O |

13 Aug 20 - 09:10 AM (#4068218) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Away Haul Away (Stan Kelly) From: Bruce D We tend to treat Sea Shanties Lyrics as being one set of verses and always being sung in a set order. In real life shanties were mixed about, verses changed. new subject material added based on the shanty singer own experiences, the local whores at the last port, or got the pox, the ships cat or dog name, how well the Mates were regarded, the port the ship sailed from, how drunk the crew was before signing on, etc etc. These songs were never static, they were constantly envoling, so what we now know as a particular shanty, are in general the most common verses cleaned up and recorded.
