I think the proper procedure is to PM the quizmaster, so as to avoid giving each other our answers. I'm gonna start now.

A personal favorite:

shoop shoop shoop shoop shoop shoop shoop}
If you want to know if he loves you so   } it's in his kiss.

it doesn't get much easier than that. Oddly enough, it's called the Shoop Shoop Song.

Besides "The Shoop Shoop Song," here are a couple of other scat-titles:

"Da Doo Ron Ron" ("Met him on a sunday and my heart stood still")

"Rama Lama Ding Dong" (Two different songs with this title, actually: the original tongue-in-cheek song was uptempo, "I've got a girl named Rama Lama lama lama lama ding-dong..." -- written by one of the Brill Building regulars, a guy who usually wrote with his wife, I'm forgetting their names. And then there's the slow and much more impassioned almost-all-scat RLDD performed by Otis Day and the Knights in the movie "Animal House.")

Mainly, have fun. There are no grades. I'll post the answers in a few days.
I sold this quiz to Games Magazine some years ago, but they published only 10 or 12 of the questions, then reprinted the 10-12 questions in a couple of their anthologies; it was also re-published in an airline magazine. I got paid every time so I'm not complaining. I stumbled upon it in my computer the other day; this is the first time the quiz has appeared in its entirety.

Thanks for the answers. I had sent in my best guesses via PM -- only got a little more than half of 'em.

Jerry's right; despite the good job Cool Beans did in spelling out these nonsense syllables, there's no way to "read" the correct rhythm. Now that I see the answers for the ones I missed, a couple are songs I never knew or had forgotten, but more of them are songs I know well enopugh, but I didn't have the imagination to read the sylllables in the cortrect rhythm -- for example, # 10 Little Staar and #23 Speedo.

Well, it sure was fun, and I'm glad the the author made szome money on this endeavor elsewhere. (Sure wasn't going to make a profit here!)

Oh dear....I got way too many of them. I also believe that #5 could be Purple People Eater, as well as Tutti Frutti, as I'm pretty certain that is what the little fellow says in the last line of the song as it fades out.

Glad you put the answers up! I only managed an odd couple, The Badger took the quiz to his local and drove them mad with it as they argued about the possible answers.

Just one question - are some of them purely American in release as I had never even heard of them?

04 Aug 04 - 10:48 AM (#1240183)
Subject: RE: Oldies scat quiz
From: Cool Beans

Yes, Tig, some are purely American; most were radio hits, a couple were pretty obscure. "Link Ting Tong" was a sort of undergbround hit because its refrain -- "eye simoke-um boon-dye yay" was in some quarteres misheard or interpreted as "I smoke-um boo all day."
