Hi,

I just bought a June Tabor compilation disc and was thrilled by the songs she recorded with Martin Simpson backing her up on guitar. That was a mighty collaboration.
   Does anybody know what Martin is up to these days? Does he ever do tours on the East Coast of the U.S.?

he was in Whitby for a time, I believe - rumours of traditional doings in Sheffield of a female folkie nature!

Martin is, i'm lead to believe 'courting' Roy Bailey's daughter Kit and is I am told a resident of the Steel City (Sheffield tha knaws)

Sunny Scunny's Best-Loved Son is playing and as well as, if not better than, ever - had the pleasure of seeing him 'live' a couple of times during the past 2 years. That's all that matters to me, his personal life's his own business. Getting like The Daily Mirror on here! (ROTFL) :0)

When I saw him earlier this year I got the feeling from some of his comments that another Trad English album may be on the way as a follow up to Bramble Briar.

I have nothing but admiration for the bloke and his abilities as a musician and guitarist and accompanist, I wish the man all the best in life as I'm sure my old friend Jim McDonald does!

I wish Kit and Martin all the best. I've known and been friends of Kit for a long time we go back to Beverley Folk Fest days when she was venue manager when I MC'd so I'm not doing a Daily Mirror pal !!!
Martin has done some charity work in Sheffield for the Five Weirs Walk and we're pleased to have him here as a honoury Dee dah (much like me)

Martin isn't a 'closet banjo player' - he's including the 5-string banjo in his set these days, and making a great job of it!

We had him at the Railway, Heatley, as part of the Lymm Festival, in a marquee with around 170 present in June this year. I was privileged to be his 'sound man' for the concert. A reet good 'do'!!

My guess is he's 'not culturally unique enough' to do gigs in the US these days... like so many other Brits who cannot get a Visa - Les Barker and Grant Baynham to name but two. Stinks, dunnit?!

He played at the Railway, Lymm, a few weeks ago - to a full house. I was the sound man as well as the support artiste, and it was a great night!

He's playing in Stroud at the Space on Dec 10th with Andy Cutting - who is no slouch on the melodeon.

It's Cajun night so I will be torn.
