Susan, if you put Scent of the Roses or Mary O'Hara in the Supersearch, you will find a bunch of threads on her and her autobiography also titled Scent of the Roses. From a quick scan of some of those, it looks to me as though "Alice in Montana" may have the words for a lot of O'Hara's songs. If you join up as a member (it's free:-) you could send her a Personal Message from your own Personal Page and see if she might help out. O'Hara is so well-known, though, someone else may come in here and get them for you before that, anyway.:-)

Good luck!

Susan, as kat says, 'The Scent of the Roses' is Mary O'Hara's autobiography, I don't' know anything about 'Prayer of the Badger' but
Ms. O'Hara took the name of her book from this poem by Thomas Moore.

Farewell! but whenever you welcome the hour
That awakens the night-song of mirth in your bower,
Then think of the friend who once welcomed it too,
And forgot his own griefs to be happy with you.
His griefs may return, not a hope may remain
Of the few that have brighten'd his pathway of pain,
But he ne'er will forget the short vision, that threw
Its enchantment around him, while lingering with you.

2. And still on that evening, when pleasure fills up
To the highest top sparkle each heart and each cup,
Where'er my path lies, be it gloomy or bright,
My soul, happy friends, shall be with you that night;
Shall join in your revels, your sports, and your wiles,
And return to me, beaming all o'er with your smiles
Too blest, if it tells me that, 'mid the gay cheer,
Some kind voice has murmur'd, "I wish he were here!"

3. Let Fate do her worst, there are relics of joy,
Bright dreams of the past, which she cannot destroy;
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and care,
And bring back the features that joy used to wear.
Long, long be my heart with such memories fill'd!
Like the vase, in which roses have once been distill'd
You may break, you may shatter the vase, if you will,
But the scent of the roses will hang round it still.

Subject: Lyr Add: PRAYER OF THE BADGER (G S Moncrieff)
From: Jim Dixon

It might be too late to help Susan in Oz, but I found this at an Australian web site called John Mark Ministries:

PRAYER OF THE BADGER
George Scott Moncrieff

Lord, I do love the darkness, the hours folk call the night.
Where others see but blackness, I know a lordly light,
The light that burns within each breathing hopeful heart,
And gives all living kin of godliness some part.

Lord, I do love the sunlight reflected by the moon.
I move by it at midnight, but hide from it at noon.
Your daylight dawning blinds me, reveals me from above,
Ungainly and unkindly, unworthy of Your love.

Lord, I do love the darkness, the hours folk call the night.
Where others see but starkness, I know a lordly light.
I dance between the trees of this cathedral wood.
I scent the gentlest breeze and know Your will is good.

Getting back to the other questions…

Mary O'Hara did indeed record a song called THE SCENT OF THE ROSES on her album "The Scent of the Roses" (Chrysalis, 1980). It is also on "40 Traditional Songs" (H&H Music, 2007), and is one of the bonus tracks on the CD version of "Live at Carnegie Hall" (Valentine Records, 1983?).

"The Scent of the Roses" also contains THE PRAYER OF THE BADGER.

Her album "Tranquility" (Warwick, 1979) contains a song called SHEPHERD'S SONG (BAILERO).

This information is from a discography in PDF format which can be found at Mary O'Hara's web site.

However, I don't think there are any lyrics at that web site. There are some sound files and videos, but not of the songs requested.
