BS: Rik Palieri's Book

I am hoping that many of you know of Rik Palieri on this forum. Suffice it to say he is a wonderful performer and "musical road warrior".   Well, his book (his first effort) is now published---The Road Is My Mistress".

Trust me when I say this is a real winner. I had the honor of reading the galleys and interviewing Rik after I read them for my radio programs---Tabletalk and also Traditions on WFDU 89.1 FM Teaneck NJ.

The book really gets into what life as a road musician is like, what interesting people you meet along the way, what creativity is needed, how Rik has met and formed friendships with notable artists from around the world---and, finally, his wonderful view of live and his loves. The last part alone will have you well up with a tear or two and also, perhaps, teach you a bit about how we all share sorrows and joys.

In full disclosure I will say that I am not an agent, have no financial interest in this at all. I just think it is a terrific work by someone who has proven his creativity in a new field for him.

You can check the book out on Amazon.com

Rik shared a meal with us between gigs on his last UK tour - wonder if we are in the book?

Well---what is the name?   But, then again, if you get the book the mystery is solved.

If Rik's book is half as good as his playing, it's gonna be a cracker. His appearance at the Gainsborough Folk Club with Gareth Hedges was an absolute delight. A fine musician, a truly charismatic guy and now, hopefully, a successful writer.

Any news on the title of the book, or the ISBN no?

And of course (before some clever bugger points it out to me) if it was this morning, it must have been a.m.! LOL

In any case---well worth the read.    Frankly, there is one segment that will bring tears to your eyes.

I remember Rik from 25 years ago when he was performing with Pete Seeger and the Sloopsingers at the summer Revivals. He was just beginning his career then, and I don't have a clear memory of his playing and singing, but I do remember him as a kindly soul. Based on this book, it seems that he's lived a folkie's fantasy -- footloose, adventurous, creative, spontaneous.

To that you can add---caring and in some passages of very personal moments---loving.
