Simple Audio Editing Program

From: karen k

I am in the process of transfering tapes to cd. I have a dual cassette deck on which I first make a new tape taking out what I don't want. My problem is not getting smooth transitions between songs. Sometimes I want to take out all the clapping or some of the clapping or eliminate some of the talking. Sometimes I am able to pause the tape I am recording to exactly right and other times I cannot. So, I am looking for a simple program that will allow me to do these kinds of things. It really has to be simple. I don't want a lot of bells and whistles. I just want to be able to clean it up after after I have trasferred the edited tape to cd.

Any suggestions? I did a thread search under audio editing and didn't find anything. So, if anyone can point me to an existing thread I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
karen

I bought Magix's "Easy Audio and Transfer Kit" from Sony. It's supposed to be pretty good and fairly easy to use. It cost about $50 US from Sony.com, but you have to really search the site to find it.

Karen - if you are recording the tapes as wav files on the computer before putting on CD - windows sound recorder is very simple to operate and allows you to trim to minut fractions of a second.

Audacity is another freebie program that allows you to trim a wav file - it also has allows you to do fade ins and outs...

I'm also quite fond of Audacity. It is a free download, even I can understand it a bit, and I REALLY like the name!

Never found one that is free or cheap, has a good understandable interface, and makes it easy to find and use the most important features (like just trimming the ends of the track).

But currently I'm using WaveFlow which isn't bad.

A demo version of Cool Edit 96.

Powerful, not hard to learn, free (since Syntrillium doesn't make the program anymore), and versatile. It's an older version of the program but I've been using it for years and it still works well in Windows XP.

Another vote for Audacity : absolutely perfick for track trimming and the like. Not a demo version of anything, the real program totally free, and runs on more platforms than most. (Mac/Windows/Linux/Unix)
