It describes the last antics and demise of a circus character. Any ideas? |

(Pick one!) They are all from northern Michigan, which does NOT mean the UP, apparently; they are centered around Travis City. The albums were sponsored by Northern Michigan Songwriters in the Round, which apparently doesn't have a web site. The group seems to have some connection to the Horizon Shine Café, which has gotta be one of the worst puns worked into a business name. |
11 Aug 04 - 12:06 PM (#1244854) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'the day the bearded lady died From: GUEST,reggie miles I've been playing a song by the name of "The Bearded Lady" ever since discovering it on an old 78rpm record and have enjoyed including my own, rather lengthy, nonsense introduction that some have likened to "Alice's Restaurant". I usually present this old gem with a couple of others, "The Man With The Weird Beard" and "Who Said I was A Bum" and call the medley my bearded trilogy. Though the bum song doesn't mention beards in the title it does have a nice beard verse. In the song "The Bearded Lady" it doesn't refer to her death but it does speak of the loss of her affections. Apparently her beard is envied by a barber passing by. He shaves her once and she likes it. So, she takes to shaving three times a day. Then the betrayed lover is left to search the world over for a beard as fine as that. I usually throw in, "Once you've had a bearded lady you never go back". This song's chorus also includes one of my favorite rhymes of all times. I love the bearded lady cuz her kisses tickle so Her whiskers make me prickle from my head down to my toe That kiss with the moustache in it No wonder I get passsionate I love the bearded lady cuz her whiskers tickle so MaineDog, I hope someone has a copy of your song to share. I too would love to hear it, and to get a chance to perform it with the others beard songs I've managed to collect. Until then.... If you should see a bearded lady please remember me And have her call me up sometime at Main - 8963 |

The tune is a mystery to me because of the condition of the singers at the time --- MD |

28 Mar 09 - 06:27 PM (#2599489) Subject: Lyr Add: THE DAY THE BEARDED LADY DIED (A Villoch) From: GUEST,mike THE DAY THE BEARDED LADY DIED (Andre Villoch) "The big top will be closed today," said the Ringmaster So that we can recover from our recent disaster The people asked what happened, and the Ringmaster sadly replied, "I'm afraid the Bearded Lady has died" Oh how I cried The day the Bearded Lady died How I loved her so She was practicing her tight rope act When the line just went and snapped She was scared as she fell down She bounced out of the net, but didn't hit the ground Instead she flew over where the clowns were standing They watched her land in the giant cannon, She shot out of there with a horrible bang And pulled off a three and a half twist through the hoop of flame The strong man said he should have caught her But she landed safely in a glass of water She got out of the glass and looked around, But she didn't see the three-ton-man sitting down She couldn't move, she was frozen with fear It gave new meaning to "the end is near" Then that 6,000 pounds of fat Squashed the Bearded Lady flat The funeral procession crawled into town I rode in the car with 46 sad clowns The elephants cried, so did the apes And the rubber man got all bent out of shape We all thought of how we'd miss her And her smile behind those whiskers It was no one's fault, there's no one to blame, But the circus will never be the same |
