Lyr Req: Big Dick (Cheney)

My wife heard this song for the first time this past Sunday on Ron Olesko's "Traditions" program that is aired on WFDU radio. She thought it was the funniest thing she heard in a long time, comparing our illustrious VP to the male organ. If Ron or anyone else on the forum has the lyrics to this song I am sure we would all enjoy seeing them. Also, if someone could provide the name of the author, there is a man in Washington DC by the name of Ashcroft who would be very interested. SOL ZELLER

I'm pretty sure that Ron Olesko of WFDU is a Mudcat member.

I would suggest that you send him a "PM" (personal message), but the only way I know how to send a PM is to click on the little "PM" next to the member's name where it appears at the top of a post. Can't offer any advice on how to look up a member and then send a message.

Also, of course, it would be preferable for the lyrics to appear here in the forum where we can all enjoy them (as opposed to appearing only in a private message to you).

I have already sent Ron a PM, asking him to post the lyrics on the public forum for all to enjoy. He has not as yet responded. SOL ZELLER

If you remember the date you heard it, you can probably look at his playlists and at least find out the artist and album title.

Hi,

I wrote to the artist but I have not received a response. I am swamped right now, otherwise I would transcribe them myself. The artist is Chris Kennedy.

Now we're getting somewhere! (I know what I'd get if I went searching for "big dick" using Google – but adding "Chris Kennedy" makes a big difference.) The Midnight Special Playlist for August 16, 2003 tells me that Chris Kennedy sings the song BIG DICK CHENEY MAN on the various-artists album "Winterfolk XV" which can be ordered from Waterbug Records and some other sites.

Hi...Chris Kennedy here. I'm glad you liked the tune. It's on the WInterfolk XV recording. It was recorded at the Alladin Theater in Portland, OR, in February of 2003. Other folks who performed at the festival included Utah Phillips, Tracey Grammer, Misty River, and others. The festival raised money for the Sisters of the Road Cafe which helps the homeless and hungry of Portland. I live here in Big Dick's state--Wyoming---but in the only democratically held county in the state, so the response has been OK when I've done the tune around here. However, the tune is now somewhat irrelevent because the VP is out there, on the road, visible, vocal, having left his secret undisclosed location behind to hit the stage at the convention. Thanks again.

I'll have to see about getting one of those CDs...would love to hear this, having been a resident of Wyoming, off and on, for many years; most recently 2.5 years ago. Chris, I'm betting you're probably near Laramie? Or, possibly Jxson, but there's so much money up there I don't know if it'd be that tolerant!**bg**

Didya see the sign at the protest march in NYC? It said, "Yee-ha is not a foreign policy!":-)

I'm in Rock Springs. But I have played in Laramie (at the Territorial Park, at Jeffrie's, at 2nd Story Books...) I haven't played in Jackson, but I did a gig in Wilson and in Moran and at Dornan's in Moose with my buddy Tom May.

I'm doing my little show about hobos ("Hard Travelin': Tales and Tunes of the American Hobo") on September 11 at the Global Cafe in Lander. I don't have anything booked after that...I only do about 15 or 20 gigs a year, if it looks interesting or fun, if it pays OK or if it's for a good cause. I'm just an old folkie occasionally on the road...but mostly I'm here on the desert and in the wind of SW Wyoming.

No, I didn't see the sign at the convention. (I don't have TV...but I've been keeping up via the radio and papers.)

Thanks Kat...CK

Not really all that far from us down here on the western edge of Colorado...away from the wind and the snow.:-) My cousin is near you, though and I've got friends in a couple of the places you mentioned. We used to love to go to Lander to powwows, etc.

Your show sounds like a good one. Ever heard Art Thieme's "Cowboy Barbara Allen?" he got it off an old cowboy in a bar in "Shy-Anne." It's well done and Art's a member here so if you do a search for it, in the DT or in the threads it'll come up. It starts out In Medicine Bow where I was born, there lived a fair maid dwelling/Made all the boys ride saddle-sore and her name was Barbara Allen, etc.

I also just published a book called WindWords of Wyoming so maybe I'll see you at a booksigning *up thar* one of these days.**bg**

all the best,

kat

To the tune of "Secret Agent Man"

BIG DICK CHENEY MAN
(Chris Kennedy)

Meeting with the Christian Right guy Sunday
Warm greetings for his Enron friends on Monday
Disclosure he abhors, except behind closed doors
Striking deals to help the wealthy make more money

Big Dick Cheney Man, Big Dick Cheney Man
Who knows where he's hiding? The VP of this land

Dropped out of Yale to be an oil man in Wyoming
In the witness protection plan I think he's roaming
His limousine drives around, it stops but no one gets out
Was that Dick with Elvis at the Denny's in Nebraska?

Big Dick Cheney Man, Big Dick Cheney Man
Oh, who knows where he's hiding? The Big Dick of this land

Now there's one thing that you and I know for certain
No one got the deal he got at Halliburton
He grabbed that $45 mil and headed out for Capitol Hill
Now he orders out for pizza from a secret, undisclosed location

Big Dick Cheney Man, Big Dick Cheney Man,
Who knows where he's hiding? The Big Dick of this land.
The best VP since Agnew, the VP of this land
Big Dick Cheney Man

You can also listen to the song here

Sorry, I forgot to mention: I found the lyrics online from someone here and transcribed the few discrepancies.
