BS: Could we have a guest filter?

Maybe this is not possible, but would it be possible to install a guest filter so that each individual member could elect to filter out all guest posts much like you can filter any given person in the chatroom? Seems like this would be the best of both worlds, whereby people who wish to rise to trollbaiting could elect to do so, while others may elect not to deal with this annoyance. Probably not possible but thought I would ask.

I'd rather see a crash filter...

And well, a Guest filter is gonna filter out possible 'gems' (HA!) from 'members' who find themselves for one reason or another, 'cookieless'...

The method of coping that's been suggested is to simply ignroe then and hope they go away...

Mudcat... home of "Head-In-The-Sand" moderation...

As much as some GUEST posts piss me off, I wouldn't use a GUEST Filter, in that many GUEST posts are valid and interesting.

And Clinton. You're right. Every few months I resolve not to respond, yet eventually I do.

you 2 gentlemen missed my point. I suggested an OPTIONAL guest filter, or even better yet, a filter where any one member could select to not see not only guest posts but any person they find offensive. I agree that most would elect not to use this feature, but for those who would like it, why not?

I'd love a killfile to put the eejit members in.

Can we have one pleeeeze Max, pleeeeeeeze?

"for those who would like it, why not?"

Cause it's not really worth the effort to code JT...

People have asked before, and been told "Just ignore them yourself"

Mudcat has bigger fish to fry in my estimation...

I mean, sure.... If there was a 'filter' I could attach to my 'cookie' that'd allow me to permanently 'ignore' certain user names, I'd use it myself... But I'm not gonna hold my breath on such a specialized feature ever coming down the pike...

An OPTIONAL Guest filter is a lovely idea. :-) Just think...those who are perpetually bellyaching about Guests could finally live Guest-free!!!! And the rest of us could continue enjoying the Guests. Then too, we could have an optional Martin Gibson filter, and charge people a dollar a week for using it! This alone might prove sufficient to cover Mudcat expenses. An optional Clinton Hammond filter or an optional Gargoyle filter would appeal to some, while an optional Little Hawk filter would appease those who are irritated by spiritual "mumbo-jumbo" and references to William Shatner!

I say we lobby Max to provide a filter program on which each member can select exactly who to tune out...on an individual basis! Just like cable TV, only better.

Hi Jimmy,

I didn't miss your point. I just said that I wouldn't use it if offered.

Also, nothing wrong with you suggesting it, but it's been suggested before. There's little new here at Mudcat when it comes to structure.

Ya JT... don't go off in a huff... it WOULD be a good idea...

It's just not gonna happen

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen an MB with such an ignore feature...

I wasn't really objecting, Jimmy...just siezing on a great opportunity for a little satire. Such an optional filter would be fine for the people who wanted it, but I think it's highly unlikely it will ever be installed.

We could also lobby Max for a filter that filters out bad language. This would result in certain people losing a large part of their working vocabulary...at least on Mudcat.

Such a filter would only make things worse, surely? You'd get responses from members to missing posts:

[filteredGUEST]
[member]Yes, that's a good point.
[next member] I disagree, you can't fit one of those into a ford van.
[filteredGUEST]
[nextmember] OK, I see. What about Presbytarians though?
[filteredGUEST]

TheBigPinkLad would seem more appropriatate for the batchelorette party than the wedding itself...

Little Hawk, I want a big cut of that buck a post filter fee.

I would love to make some good money.

how about a filter for members who are continuously full of themselves or other fecal matter, or for members who constantly have anti-semetic undertones.

Oh, now I'm hurt.

I'm always a GUEST because I have long since forgotten what my password was, and anyway delete my cookies every session. If there was some other way than a cookie to register and stay registered I'd do so.

BPL, thanks for one of the best laughs I've had today.

JTT,

Most of us don't mind the cookee-less regulars who honestly post using the same name after the GUEST.

Y'know how you sometimes look at things and misread them? I must have been in a Martin Gibson frame of mind when I saw this one:

how about a filter for members who are continuously full of themselves or other fecal matter, or for members who constantly have anti-semetic undertones.

For a moment I thought you said anti-emetic, MG. Gotta get my mind off those bodily functions :-)

And then there are those who don't want YOU to read THEIR posts, but don't mind if anyone else does, who will deliberately preface their member name with Guest and you will never know that they have done it deliberately because you will have filtered them out....
