Yes, I've been notified about this thread - but I figure you guys are smart enough not to follow a link to www.mature-fuck-channel.com. Well, maybe some of you aren't - but then you deserve what you get.

Um.... I'd advise not going there. It's more likely to install spyware via javascript in your browser window, I'll bet.

And how do you remove exploits and other shit from your computer?

I recently suckered on something called Spam Blocker Utility. Now I get spam in everything. I can't locate the program, so I will have to get a technician to help. It installed its own subscribers and just blocks some competitor stuff. Some of the girlies are good-lookers, though.
Should have known better, but don't install anything without the advice of a professional.

Spybot search & destroy (the free one) is a good program.

Going to housecall.antivirus.com occasionally in addition to your installed antivirus can also help.

Thanks for the advice, Cluin. I'm not too bright with computers, and for a while I was getting spam comin' out the yinyang. Seems to have stopped of late. I would have clicked that if it hadn't been for your post.

look at the thread Cluin notes..LOTS of info there. Too bad we need to worry about it, but it's just like locks on your doors and guards at the border, if you don't take precautions, something undesirable will happen.

"don't install anything without the advice of a professional" - surely "without the advice of someone you trust who knows about these things". Which isn't exactly the same things.

If any one was sucked into the trap, the person to talk to is Antonio Weelny of Brisbane, Queensland. Could that possibly be a real name?

Perhaps I should have said "without the advice of an expert," but I mis-used the word "professional" instead. I followed the advice of Cluin (Thread 68739), linked in the post, above, and installed Spybot. I will get around to Adaware tonight.

Something like 250 problems were picked up, the worst, seemingly, was Gator.

Many thanks to Cluin, John in Kansas, and the other "experts" whose advice I have taken from time to time.

Not an expert, just one who has been "stung" in the past and is sharing the solutions I've found.

Hi Cluin,

Expert or not, your clear instructions are greatly appreciated.

I had been running with an old copy of AdAware & the crap that up to date SpyBot & AdAware detected was frightening.

Thanks a lot

Dave

SpyBot S&D has a 'resident shield' that acts much like a firewall, and detects attempts to install spyware...but it must be enabled-it is not automatic. It helps to read all help files and menus on these programs, whether you understand every thing they say or not....some of it eventually begins to make sense. Anti-virus programs can check for updates automatically...but it is possible to accidently tell your firewall not to allow this..*wry grin*...ya' gotta be careful...
